Department of Economics and Planning

The Department of Economics and Planning is responsible for the university's finances, planning functions, and procurement.

The department's mission is to work with both ongoing operational activities and with development and strategic issues within its areas of responsibility. The department consists of the units Accounting and Operational Economics and a staff. The role of the economist is placed in the unit for operational economics. The department operates at Mid Sweden University's campuses in both Östersund and Sundsvall.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for an Economist/Controller with the talent to support the managers and project leaders in economic matters. The tasks in operational economics are varied and cover a wide range. You will work towards education and research and be an important resource in the university's ongoing planning. The department works, among other things, in the financial system ERP (Agresso) and the budgeting tool Hypergene.

Your main tasks will be:

  • Support research projects in the form of calculations, budgets, ongoing accounting and closing, requisitions, follow-up, and analyses
  • Support managers in the university's joint economic work with budgets, forecasts, and closings
  • Ensure accurate ongoing accounting
  • Be responsible for ongoing follow-up and analysis

Your Background

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree with a focus on economics
  • Good experience with Office applications, with a strong emphasis on Excel
  • Good experience with financial systems
  • Experience in producing, analyzing, and communicating financial information for different types of recipients

Experience in financial reporting of EU projects and other grants is an advantage.

Your Qualities

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and your ability to collaborate in the team.

The role requires you to be results-oriented and have analytical skills. Furthermore, you are service-oriented and have good collaborative skills. You also have the ability to work independently with foresight within the responsibilities of the position. You have a very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and a good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in English. We place great importance on your personal qualities.

Employment and Start Date

The position is a special fixed-term employment full-time from 2026-04-13 or by agreement, but no longer than until 2026-10-31.

Work location: Östersund or Sundsvall
