Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced software developer who thrives in an environment where stability, quality, and long-term focus are paramount. You will work on maintaining established control systems that are business and community-critical for a large customer base in the process industry.

This specific role is linked to a multi-year, customer-funded project (5 years) aimed at preserving expertise regarding an older controller (control computer). You will become part of the R&D group that manages surrounding software and products in the same family, but a significant portion of your time will be dedicated to the controller's firmware (Base System Software). Initially, the focus will be on transferring knowledge from senior mentors in the group and working closely on customer cases with the technical support department to ensure rapid learning.

To thrive in this role, a long-term interest in digging into and learning mature and established technology is required. The role thus requires you to appreciate working methodically, analyzing existing code, and exploring where documentation is limited.

Your role includes, among other things:

• A broad responsibility that covers the entire development process – from troubleshooting and bug fixing to documentation, testing, configuration management, and cybersecurity.
• Learning and preserving knowledge about the controller and its software for an important customer group with a long-term maintenance contract.
• Working with software releases for Advant Master products within ABB's system 800xA and performing regression tests in our modern lab.
• Being part of the software group responsible for Advant alongside the customer-funded maintenance project (at least 50% of the role).

Qualifications for the role

• We are looking for you as an experienced software developer with strong technical understanding; experience in hardware-near development is a plus.
• You have previously worked with control systems and field buses and have experience in industrial applications.
• Experience with C/C++ is a requirement; Modula-2, Pascal, and/or assembler are advantageous.
• Fluent in Swedish and English, both spoken and written, as you will be working in an international environment.
• You have worked with source code management in general development tools (IDE).
