Postdoctoral Researcher in Diabetes Research

Description of the Research Group

The research group on Beta Cell Exocytosis conducts research in diabetes.

For several years, the research has been at the forefront in the area of microRNA and beta cell physiology. The group is led by Professor Lena Eliasson and consists of research and technical staff. The activities are located at the Department of Clinical Sciences in Malmö. The research group is part of Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC). Job Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility

In the role of postdoctoral researcher, you will work with cell culture and transfection of cells (primarily MIN6, INS1-832/13, EndoC-βH1), perform exosome isolation and characterization using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), conduct in vitro glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, qPCR and Western blot analyses, and use confocal microscopy to measure intracellular signaling molecules such as Ca²⁺ and ATP and to study the uptake of exosomes. The job responsibilities also include working with animal models including pharmacological injection and in vivo metabolic phenotyping such as IPGTT (intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test) and measuring blood glucose, writing grant applications, analyzing experimental results, summarizing research results in an article, and presenting data at conferences and during internal presentations.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required for the position:

  • PhD in science and health.
  • More than three years of experience in diabetes research with a focus on the pancreas.
  • Previous experience in research on pancreatic beta cells.
  • Experience with studies involving exosomes/extracellular vesicles.
  • Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. We are looking for someone who is meticulous, driven, and has good collaboration skills.

Meritorious for the position are:

  • Experience with various molecular biology and protein biology techniques such as qPCR and Western blot.
  • Experience with imaging techniques such as confocal microscopy and electron microscopy.
  • Experience with in vivo measurements, e.g., glucose challenges and blood glucose measurements.
  • Experience with tools for data analysis of experimental data.
  • Experience with cell culture.
  • Good knowledge of English.

The position is a special fixed-term employment (SÄVA) from 2026-08-10 to 2027-08-09. Full-time position (100%).
