Department of Service Management Seeks an Engaged Teaching Assistant

The Department of Service Management is seeking an engaged teaching assistant for the autumn semester of 2026 and the spring semester of 2027.

You will work with communication and marketing of our master's programs and will be responsible for being a SI leader. We are looking for experienced students enrolled in our master's program in Service Management.

Workplace Description

You will be employed as a teaching assistant at the Department of Service Management. Your SI leader training will be provided by the European Centre for SI-PASS. You will work closely with the communicator, master's coordinator, as well as teachers and those responsible for the SI program at the department. You will also collaborate with other SI leaders within the program.

SI-PASS (Supplemental Instruction/Peer Assisted Study Sessions) is a highly successful pedagogical model developed in the USA during the 1970s and has spread to many educational institutions worldwide, including most universities in Sweden. The European Centre for SI-PASS at Lund University is one of five centers in the world responsible for informing about, educating in, and evaluating SI-PASS, and has overall responsibility for SI-PASS in Europe.

Job Responsibilities

Your tasks will include planning, coordinating, and implementing activities for master's students together with the department's communicator and master's coordinator. Your main tasks will be to organize events and other activities aimed at both communicating and marketing our programs, as well as motivating and engaging students in their education. You will also work with our Instagram account.

As a SI leader, you will regularly organize meetings where you lead student groups in your subject according to standard SI methodology. The purpose of the SI sessions is for the student group to discuss the subject's concepts and questions and together come up with answers and solutions. Students learn to see each other as teaching resources and are trained in collaborative learning.

The SI leader's task is to guide the students and structure the SI sessions. The SI leader should not teach or present anything, but the group should collaboratively process the course content that has already been presented by the teachers. The SI leader acts as support and a sounding board in this process.

More specifically, the tasks as a SI leader include:

  • Preparing and leading an SI session in the master's program in Service Management,
  • Registering and reporting attendance after each SI session,
  • Writing a brief summary after each SI session,
  • Scheduling your own SI sessions and otherwise assisting with SI administration,
  • Participating in SI guidance when offered.

The department offers two bachelor's programs in Service Management. Furthermore, there is a master's program in Service Management with five specializations: Culture and Creativity Management, Retailing and Consumption, Supply Chain Service Management, Sustainable Service Management, and Tourism. The language of instruction at the bachelor's level is Swedish, while at the master's level it is English.

Research at the department is based on current societal issues where the service sector is in focus. The research is organized into five interdisciplinary themes: Sustainability, Resources and Services; Management, Organization, and Work; Tourism, Place, and Mobility; Consumption, Marketing, and Retail; and Cultural and Creative Industries.
