Do you want to become a communication officer at the Swedish Armed Forces Technical School (FMTS)?

Have you completed your military service and hold an academic degree? Do you want to help strengthen Sweden's defense capability and make a difference? Through a special officer training program, you will have the opportunity to use your civilian degree as a foundation to become an officer!

As Sweden is now allied with NATO, the current geopolitical situation, and FMTS recently becoming an air force unit, there is a demand for new capabilities in the command and control area, and you are an important piece of the puzzle. Your expertise is needed to build and develop FMTS in communication and command systems.

Main Responsibilities

During your study period, you will be employed as a cadet at the Swedish Armed Forces Technical School. You will undergo a special officer training program (SOFU) at the Military Academy Karlberg, which lasts for just over a semester. After that, the training continues with two semesters of practical training at FMTS in Halmstad.

At FMTS, you will initially work as an instructor at our Basic Training Battalion, training conscript staff and communication soldiers for combat units. Here, you will continue to develop through education and practical experiences. Over time, we see that you will primarily develop your skills in command, communication, and signal protection to meet the needs and capabilities of the Air Force.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Academic degree (at least 180 credits) at the time of employment in a field deemed relevant by the employer
  • Good ability to express yourself in spoken and written English and Swedish
  • Driver's license B
  • Completed Swedish military basic training (GU, GMU) with group leader or platoon leader training

Personal Qualities

You have a high drive and a problem-solving analytical ability. We see that you are structured and flexible with the ability to work in a team but also independently, as well as lead and develop your colleagues.

The work requires you to be resilient and able to handle both physical and mental stress.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

MERITORIOUS

  • Work experience as GSS/K or GSS/T
  • Military position training in command and communication

Salary

Fixed salary at the time of employment and until graduation. After that, individual salary setting applies. Your position may involve travel or service in another location, both nationally and internationally.

Other

Selection takes place continuously and includes tests at the National Service and Assessment Agency. Admission requirements for officers are specified on the National Service and Assessment Agency's website. Employment also requires a successful security clearance and background check.

The Swedish Armed Forces Technical School, FMTS, based in Halmstad, is a logistics unit where technology is at the center. The unit's activities rest on four pillars - development, education, workshop, and combat unit production. For the Armed Forces to operate, they need functioning equipment, and FMTS plays an important role in this.

FMTS has a functional responsibility for the technical service within the Armed Forces, which includes following technological developments to anticipate future needs and also propose changes and improvements.

FMTS trains officers, specialist officers, and civilian employees in technical service across all branches of the armed forces. In addition, soldiers are trained in logistics.
