As the Chief Legal Officer, you assist ministers and state secretaries in the management and direction of the Ministry of Justice and are the chief civil servant for several units within the ministry. You are responsible for drafting proposals for laws and other regulations and ensuring their legality, consistency, and uniformity. Negotiation, anchoring, and collaboration are the foundation of your work. You will be responsible for the final review of legal council memos and propositions as well as proposals for laws and other regulations.
Your mission also includes, together with the head of the department and other chief legal officers, having overall responsibility for development and quality work within the ministry. Together with other chief civil servants in the ministry, you ensure that the ministry's operations are conducted efficiently and that the ministry's resources are used in a manner consistent with political priorities. The position also includes responsibilities as head of the department in certain areas, which involves ensuring legality, consistency, and uniformity in the preparation of matters other than legislative matters, as well as overseeing the management of certain authorities belonging to the ministry. You are the personnel responsible manager for unit heads and are part of the ministry's management and leadership groups as well as the Government Offices' network for chief legal officers.

Your Background
We are looking for someone who is a court of appeal or administrative court assessor, has very good knowledge of the Swedish legislative process, and excellent knowledge of the EU legislative process. You have experience in legislative work within the Government Offices, have worked as a principal in the Government Offices, and have excellent knowledge of public administration and its decision-making processes. You have good leadership experience and are accustomed to representing an organization in various contexts. You have excellent language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written, and good knowledge of English. Experience in agency governance and the state budget process, as well as knowledge of legislation within any of the Ministry of Justice's areas of responsibility, is advantageous. Experience as a unit head in the Government Offices, international work experience, and experience in leading development or change work are also merits.

You are driven, strategic, and solution-oriented and can quickly adapt to changing circumstances. You have high integrity and good judgment. You also have a good ability to structure, organize, prioritize, re-prioritize, and set goals and timelines. You have a good ability to lead, develop, and motivate qualified employees. In this work, you should be able to consider the Government Offices' leadership criteria, wholeness, development, and results, and contribute within each of these areas.
Other Information
The position is classified in a security class and a security clearance with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen, but you may have a foreign background.
