JOB DESCRIPTION

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison/detention center are varied: care, surveillance, searches, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. Work at the detention center is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the detention center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.

The employment starts with a 2-week local introduction at the prison. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in human potential for development.

There are several different functional roles within the correctional officer position, including structured activities (ASV) or the surveillance center (BC). Within ASV, your role is to guide inmates in their daily activities. You work within our ASV, which is divided into different branches such as creative activities or wellness. If you have interests in painting, music, or wellness, this functional role may suit you. In BC, your role is to monitor the prison and detention center, keeping track of logistics. If you work in the surveillance center, you are an important part of the security within the operational area. You may work on a schedule that includes both daytime and night shifts. If you have an interest in monitoring and logistics, this functional role may suit you.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important to us. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you will be working with your colleagues to manage operations, you need to have good teamwork skills and the ability to communicate clearly. Good judgment and integrity are required in your professional practice. You must have a physical condition that allows you to act physically when the situation requires it.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
  • A complete high school education or other education combined with work experience that Kriminalvården deems relevant.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
  • Good computer skills.

It is a merit if you have:

  • Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social services.
  • Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
  • Relevant language skills.
