About the job

For those driven by a job with multiple points of contact and who have experience at sea, the opportunity to work as a Ship Inspector in the Maritime Supervision section at the Transport Agency is now available. In this role, you will perform supervision through inspections and surveys, as well as operational controls over ships and ports. In addition, you will also supervise safety, the environment, and working conditions on ships and shipping companies.

The work as a Ship Inspector is very outward-facing and involves extensive contacts with the shipping and shipbuilding industry, as well as related sectors both in Sweden and abroad. This means that you will travel both within and outside the country. The job includes on-call duties.

You will

• inspect and survey Swedish and foreign ships
• review drawings and technical documentation
• perform newbuilding/remodeling and flagging inspections
• conduct port state and flag state controls
• be on-call for incidents and accidents.

You must have

• a degree as a ship captain or marine engineer with senior experience at sea as certified ship personnel with qualifications according to STCW II/2 or III/2; without limitations of operational area, or a degree as a civil engineer in shipbuilding technology with several years of experience in ship construction and shipyard industry.
• good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English
• a driving license (B).

It is meritorious if you also have

• experience from technical inspection work on ships at shipyards/remodeling/newbuilding
• experience from work in classification societies or shipbuilding industry
• experience from case management within authorities.

The employment is permanent with placement in Gothenburg. Appointment according to agreement. We normally apply a probationary period.

Employment with us may involve placement in a security class. A security review with a background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted before a decision on employment. For some of our tasks in security class, Swedish citizenship is required.

About the Transport Agency

Number of employees: About 2000.

Areas of operation: The Transport Agency works to achieve good accessibility, high quality, safe, and environmentally friendly transport within rail, aviation, shipping, and road. We develop regulations, grant permits, and monitor compliance. With the help of our registers, we work with fees, permits, and ownership transfers.

Locations: We have employees in 12 locations across the country. The largest part of the operations is in Borlänge, Norrköping, and Örebro.

The headquarters is located in Norrköping.

About the Maritime and Aviation Department

The Maritime and Aviation Department contributes to a competitive, environmentally friendly, and safe transport system. We do this by maintaining registers, developing regulations, assessing and granting permits, and exercising supervision. We also operate in many contexts on the international arena.

We are located in Norrköping, Gothenburg, Malmö, and Stockholm and have about 300 employees organized into six units and one staff unit.
