Are you ready for a bigger task?
The Swedish Police Authority is Sweden's largest authority with approximately 40,000 employees across the country. With us, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission to increase safety and reduce crime in society. We are now looking for a detention guard for the Skaraborg police area.
The Skaraborg police area is one of five police areas in the Western Police Region. The Skaraborg police area spans 15 municipalities and is divided into two local police areas: Western Skaraborg and Eastern Skaraborg. At the police area level, there is an investigation section and a police area administration.
The place of employment is either in Skövde or Lidköping.
Job Responsibilities
As a detention guard, you work at the center of events and act based on equal treatment and the police's core values. You are part of a group of detention guards led by a group leader. Work in the detention center is conducted under the supervision of a station commander and in close collaboration with the local police area's other operations such as intervention and investigation activities. As a detention guard, you handle and meet individuals who are deprived of their freedom for various reasons. Many are deprived of their freedom to investigate crimes, but it can also involve detentions due to intoxication or disturbances of public order. The pace of work varies over time and depends on how many people are deprived of their freedom for various reasons.
As a detention guard, you are the person the detainee has the closest contact with during their time in the detention facility. Employment begins with a mandatory national internal training of 3 weeks full-time, ending with a theoretical and a practical exam. You must pass these exams to be able to work as a detention guard.
Your main job responsibilities include:
- You assist the intervention operations during reception and searches
- You monitor and regularly check on those in the detention facility and ensure that the handling of the detained individuals is done in a legally secure and correct manner
- You participate in sampling, body searches, photography, evidence collection, and fingerprinting
- You monitor and transport individuals who are to be interrogated or transported
- You perform administrative tasks, for example, using the police's data systems to document the detention and conduct record checks.
As we are a smaller police area, Lidköping and Skövde collaborate closely, and you may need to work at both locations. Since we work in an operational environment, job responsibilities may change or expand.
Qualifications
This is an opportunity for you who have:
- Completed high school education with full grades or equivalent education or relevant work experience that the employer deems equivalent
- Experience working with a focus on personal contact with people that the employer considers relevant for the position (only contact via phone or computer is not relevant)
- Good ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish and English
- Good computer skills and experience working with a computer as a tool.
- Possess a B driver's license
- Work in the detention center can be both mentally and physically challenging. It is therefore important that you are in good physical and mental health.
It is advantageous if you also have:
- Completed detention guard training with a passing result.
- Previous and current experience working with individuals in vulnerable situations that the employer finds relevant. For example, from the Police Authority, Correctional Services, social services, or psychiatry.
- Experience in documentation in a role that the employer finds relevant.
- Non-Nordic language skills in addition to English that the employer deems relevant for the function where you can use the language fluently in your professional practice.
Personal Qualities
We are looking for someone with good self-awareness and personal maturity. As a detention guard, you meet people who are both physically and mentally unwell, which requires a professional approach and an attitude characterized by empathy and equal value for all, regardless of the reason for their detention.
As a detention guard, you apply a high level of security awareness, which means you are reliable in situations where physical violence may arise and have the ability to act calmly and professionally even in pressured situations. In this role, you work both independently and together with colleagues, which requires good teamwork skills as well as personal responsibility.
We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
Job Title: Administrator
Work Location: Lidköping or Skövde. Work at both locations may occur as needed. Specify which location you are most interested in in your application.
