JOB DESCRIPTION
As a correctional officer, you can contribute to a safer and more secure society. You work in teams with other professionals and have the opportunity to help people break the vicious cycle and motivate them not to reoffend. Clear routines are a natural part of your daily work. You are the one who opens the cell door in the morning and locks it in the evening. You accompany clients to work and education, search and supervise the yard and training facilities. You also have daily contact with clients to know how they are doing, and you are part of the release preparations. It is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in the potential for personal development and change.
Working in a prison is varied; care, surveillance, searches, and security work are mixed with release planning as well as conversation and motivational work. The employment starts with a 3-week local introduction at the prison. There are several different functional roles within the position of correctional officer, including other structured activities (ASV) or the monitoring center (BC). Within ASV, your role is to guide inmates in their daily activities. You work within our ASV, which is divided into different branches such as creative activities or wellness. If you have an interest in painting, music, or wellness, this functional role may suit you. In BC, your role is to monitor the prison and detention center, keeping track of logistics. If you work in the monitoring center, you are an important part of the security of the operational area. You may work on a schedule that includes both daytime and night shifts. If you have an interest in monitoring and logistics, this functional role may suit you.
QUALIFICATIONS
Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You understand the importance of being punctual and having good structure in your work. You should be able to act physically when required. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.
Requirements:
- Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that Kriminalvården deems relevant.
- Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
- Ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish.
It is meritorious if you have:
- Work experience from correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social work.
- Driver's license (B).
- Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
- Relevant language skills.
- Good computer skills.
We see that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in the human capacity and willingness to develop. As well as an awareness of and understanding of how background, culture, and group affiliation affect oneself and others.
