About us

The Environmental and Sustainability Section is part of the Swedish Armed Forces' Infrastructure Department under the Defense Staff's Support Unit at the Headquarters. Our tasks are to be the knowledge center for environmental issues within the Armed Forces. We support the entire organization through various regulations and guidelines, as well as participate in consultation management, investigations, and reporting.

Main responsibilities

We prefer that you, as an applicant, have recently graduated in the field of environmental science or engineering. You will work broadly with environmental issues in advisory, supportive, and investigative roles. Part of the job as a sustainability strategist involves conducting environmental strategic analyses to assess how different scenarios and assumptions affect the Armed Forces' operations.

REQUIREMENTS Qualifications:

  • Current and relevant academic degree in the environmental or engineering field as assessed by the employer
  • Current and relevant work experience in environmental work within the public sector
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written

Personal qualities

The work involves influencing the Armed Forces' strategic efforts. This requires you to have high integrity. You are meticulous and unpretentious, which also means that you are a good team player who is used to collaborating with others and has well-developed communication skills. You have the ability to independently drive issues, are flexible, and can handle temporary peaks in workload without becoming stressed.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience with the Armed Forces' operations
  • Experience working within the defense sector
  • Experience with environmental management systems
  • Possession of a B driver's license

Information about the recruiting unit:

At the Headquarters, there is the Chief of Defense and the Director General. The Headquarters has approximately 1,000 employees – both professional officers and civilian experts. As of 2023-01-01, the Headquarters consists of the Defense Staff, Operations Management, Military Intelligence and Security Service, as well as the Headquarters' Staff Department and independent supervisory units.

Employment with us means placement in a security class. Usually, Swedish citizenship is required. A security review with a background check will be conducted prior to employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Employment also includes an obligation to be placed in wartime. The implications of this vary depending on the type of position.
