Job Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility

You will be part of the project group for the Iron Age exhibition. The main tasks will consist of fine woodworking, construction, and completion of display cases, pedestals, information stations, and props related to the exhibition. You will also work with object mounting in display cases. The exhibition is planned to open in late autumn 2026. You will work in the museum's storage, where there is a simple workshop, as well as in the museum building where the exhibition will be constructed.

In 2025, the Historical Museum worked with a design firm, and therefore there is a finished design with construction drawings to work from. Your tasks will include quality assurance, possibly improving, and realizing the construction based on these drawings. You will also collaborate with external craftsmen, such as in electrical work, construction, and painting.

There may also be other museum technical tasks at the museum, such as organizing the relocation and mounting of runestones.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with extensive professional experience in fine woodworking, likely within the museum world with exhibitions, scenography, or other experiences that can be considered equivalent. You can realize construction based on finished drawings without hindrance, but you are also flexible and responsive to any changes. Much of the practical work will be performed independently, but since you work in a team, it is important that you have good collaboration skills, are communicative, and have a flexible approach. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

It is desirable that you have experience in object mounting in an exhibition context, construction of props and tactile elements, experience with 3D printing and 3D programs, or other knowledge that may benefit the exhibition.

A driving license (B) is required for the position as there will be many transports in the museum's van.

Requirements

  • Craft education in fine woodworking, other practical education deemed equivalent, or long professional experience assessed as relevant for the position
  • Documented experience in fine woodworking
  • Experience working with practical construction of exhibitions, scenography, or other production deemed equivalent
  • Experience in following, quality assuring, and modifying construction drawings and finding practical solutions.
  • A driving license (B) is required for the position.

Meritorious

  • Experience in object mounting
  • Experience working with 3D printing and props
  • Experience in painting
  • Experience ordering from and working with subcontractors.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English in speech and writing
