The Supervisory Unit, which is independent and autonomous, is organizationally placed at the office of the National Police Commissioner, with the National Police Commissioner being directly responsible. The supervision has four different areas of operation in addition to the data protection officers:

  • Internal supervision that occurs to review the operations from a legal security perspective.
  • External supervision responsible for representing the Police Authority in contacts with the Parliamentary Ombudsman (JO), the Chancellor of Justice (JK), the Discrimination Ombudsman (DO), the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY), and the Privacy Protection Board (SIN) in supervisory matters.
  • Whistleblower function that receives, assesses, and follows up reports of irregularities in the authority's operations.
  • Handling inquiries from the National Board of Health and Welfare.

Job Description

The data protection officer at the Police Authority independently reviews that the authority processes personal data in accordance with applicable legislation and reports directly to the National Police Commissioner. The data protection officers can also advise the authority's management and employees on matters related to personal data processing and serve as a contact point for individuals and relevant supervisory authorities. The authority's data protection officers are placed together in a special function.

As a data protection officer at the Police Authority, you have significant freedom to prioritize and organize your own work, but also a great responsibility to promote the protection of individuals' personal integrity in a law enforcement context.

Your tasks include, among other things:

  • Reviewing the Police Authority's processing of personal data and reporting your assessments and recommendations to the National Police Commissioner.
  • Advising the authority and its employees in connection with business development and the development of new technical capabilities.
  • Working together with the authority's other data protection officers and collaborating with the authority's data protection lawyers based on your respective roles.
  • Participating in international cooperation with other data protection officers and data protection specialists at Europol, Interpol, and other law enforcement authorities within the EU.
  • Cooperating with supervisory authorities and being a contact point for individuals regarding personal data processing issues.

Qualifications

This is an opportunity for you who have:

  • At least 5 years of recent experience in qualified work within data protection, such as a data protection officer, data protection lawyer, information security specialist, IT security specialist, or another specialist role that the employer deems relevant
  • Very good knowledge of data protection
  • A very good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing
  • Swedish citizenship

It is meritorious if you also have:

  • A law degree or another degree that the employer deems relevant
  • Completed a notary or assessor internship
  • Experience in supervisory activities that are deemed relevant
  • Experience in legal work at a law enforcement authority or another government agency
  • Experience in information security management, risk analysis, or reviewing security architecture related to personal data

Personal Attributes

As a data protection officer at the Police Authority, it is important that you can work at a varying pace, are unpretentious, and solution-oriented. The tasks require that you have a very good analytical ability and that you are meticulous and structured. You also need to be able to drive your work forward and take your own initiatives to solve tasks. You enjoy working both independently and together with others to achieve common goals. A success factor is being good at communicating with others and having good pedagogical skills.
