Market Control Officer
The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency is the leading, directing, and coordinating authority in civil defense. We ensure that society is prepared for crises, heightened readiness, and war.
We make Sweden ready.
Do you want to be our next colleague?
We are now looking for someone who wants to help remove substandard products from the market while contributing to increasing Swedish competitiveness. Do you enjoy reviewing products to ensure they are safe for users and promoting the EU's internal market? Thinking innovatively and developing together with others?
We have an exciting job to offer! The agency currently needs a market control officer for gas cylinders, aerosol containers, gas grills, and other gas appliances, as well as fireworks and explosives for civilian use that fall under EU product regulations.
Your responsibilities and tasks
In the section, we work with market control and other initiatives to ensure that products meet EU product regulations and are safe to use. We contact manufacturers, importers, and/or distributors of products and check that they have met the applicable requirements, and in case of deficiencies, we may need to decide on sales bans and recalls.
During product reviews, the following tasks may occur: analyzing the market and selecting products that may be deficient, followed by reviewing the product primarily through document control. The review is documented in internal and EU systems, and the results may lead to decisions on legal actions. Other initiatives we undertake include informing and raising awareness about the content of the regulations.
You will be part of a smaller group within the section, but the role also includes the ability to work independently in close collaboration with colleagues. Depending on your experience and background, there are good opportunities to shape the position based on interests, skills, and experience to gradually grow into the role.
In addition to market control matters, you will have the opportunity to work with information and training initiatives, environmental analyses, collaboration with other authorities nationally and within the EU, as well as the development of our control methods and system support. You can also contribute to the section's development work, for example, on digital tools and process improvements.
Your knowledge and competencies
We are looking for someone who has:
- A university degree with a focus on natural sciences, engineering, or social sciences, or other education combined with work experience that the employer deems equivalent.
- Several years of work experience.
- Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English.
It is an advantage if you have:
- Knowledge and experience in product safety, market control, or supervision.
- Experience working in a government or other public organization.
- Experience in technical or legal matters.
- A valid driver's license (B).
In all our work, both internally and externally, we must act based on the government’s fundamental values. Like all employees and leaders with us, you are expected to act according to the agency's approach.
The approaches apply in everyday life, crises, and war. They should be seen as a whole and build on each other; collaborative – proactive - action-oriented.
To succeed in the role, we see that you are service-oriented, have personal maturity, and possess good linguistic analytical skills. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
About the employment
We offer you a permanent full-time position that begins with a probationary period.
Your place of employment will be Karlstad, and travel may occur in the position.
The majority of our positions involve placement in a security class. Usually, Swedish citizenship is required. When placed in a security class, a security review with a background check will be conducted before employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Most employees at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency are assigned to military service.
About us
The position is located in the Department of Emergency Services within the section for handling explosives. The section works with legislation, support, and development of society's preventive work in the area of explosives, both accident prevention and crime prevention. The section is also responsible for tasks within the area of market control.
We have an activity-based office where you can choose your workspace according to your needs. You also have the opportunity to work part of your time remotely. Other benefits include the possibility of wellness hours, wellness grants, and favorable vacation conditions.
All of us who work at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency are expected to contribute to increased equality and equal treatment for a work environment and a society free from discrimination.
Do you want to know more? If you have questions, please contact section manager Suzanne Noreklint. Union representatives are Lena Bergman Bokvist (Saco-S), Lena Bäcklund Gillstedt (ST), and Josefin Berglund (SEKO). All can be reached via the switchboard number 0771-240 240.
Welcome with your application by March 15, 2026.
