Women’s Center in Akalla Seeks Coordinator for Individual, Rights-Based Support

The Salvation Army is a Christian church with a strong community engagement. The Women’s Center in Akalla has been operating for nearly 30 years and continuously works to meet and support people who are marginalized. The center's target group is women with migration experience who live in marginalization and/or vulnerability. The center is a welcoming place that gathers people from different parts of the world, creating a shared space and context while aiming to empower individuals through knowledge about Swedish society, Swedish language skills, and knowledge of rights and obligations.

We are now looking for a person to fill the role of responsible for the center's support activities. As a coordinator for individual, rights-based support, you will ensure that the center's support efforts align with the overall purpose of the organization and are well-coordinated, well-planned, and run smoothly. A fundamental requirement for the job is to work relationally in the field and be visible to participants in a natural way. The work is largely practical in its execution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The role involves providing support at the individual level at the center. The support consists of conversations, contact with authorities, healthcare providers, and other community actors relevant to the target group. You will establish action plans together with the participants you meet and support them in their respective needs.

The role also has overall responsibility for the center's food distribution, which includes contact with external donors and supervision of a number of volunteers. Each week, you will be present at the food distribution and work with the volunteer group.

Being employed at the Women’s Center also means supporting your colleagues and seeing the whole picture of the organization. We are a relatively small workgroup, and the needs we encounter are significant. Therefore, you must approach the role with a flexible attitude and an understanding that you are expected to step in where needed within the team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • We are looking for someone with a degree in social work, human rights education, or another equivalent qualification, and who can provide proof of this through a diploma.
  • You have experience in practical social work and in meeting people in marginalization/vulnerability.
  • You have knowledge of, and are passionate about, human rights and the ability to support people in accessing these rights.
  • You have knowledge of men’s violence against women, exploitation/human trafficking, vulnerability, and factors that identify particular vulnerability.
  • You have knowledge of migration law.

Desirable

  • We would like you to have knowledge in Motivational Interviewing (MI).
  • We would like you to have experience working with journal systems.
  • We would like you to have a driver’s license.

The social work requires a good ability to draw boundaries between the private and the professional.

We are looking for someone who is in solidarity with the values of The Salvation Army, and we would prefer you to have a personal Christian faith. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

All employees are covered by a collective agreement. We apply the collective agreement for Health & Care through the Employers' Alliance. For this position, you are required to present a criminal record extract before starting.

The position is a permanent employment with an initial probationary period of 6 months. The position is 100% and working hours are scheduled Monday - Friday. The position is based in Akalla.
