Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a PhD researcher interested in atmospheric turbulence.

The work involves performing fluid mechanical calculations to understand fundamental questions about atmospheric turbulence, specifically regarding wind shear and mass transport. The role of turbulence in global general circulation will also be studied, for example, how it affects extreme winds. Most of the work involves numerical experiments but also analyses of observational data. The work is conducted interdisciplinary with researchers at the Department of Meteorology, Stockholm University within the Bolin Center for Climate Research.

Qualifications

Requirements

• A PhD degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD in fluid mechanics, meteorology, or another relevant field. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made.
• The ability to formulate and conduct independent research projects and constructively participate in collaborations.
• The ability to effectively communicate research and research results in writing and speech.

Meritorious

• At the time of the application deadline, no more than three years since the PhD degree was obtained or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD.
• Documented experience in research based on the application and development of global weather forecasting or climate models, as well as a good understanding of turbulence in the atmosphere and momentum transport.
• Experience in turbulence simulation on GPU architecture.
• AI/ML competence.
• Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
