Job Responsibilities

A new research project is developing sound-based, personalized sleep interventions, aimed at improving sleep quality in three critical stages: falling asleep, the sleep period, and waking up.

We aim to develop, evaluate, and demonstrate three existing interactive sound prototypes designed to support sleep.

You will work with a diverse team of researchers with expertise in sound, computer science, health, and sleep, and your position will include the following goals:

  • to develop, evaluate, and demonstrate three interactive sound designs for sleep that are personalized and adaptive;
  • to engage key stakeholders, including user groups, healthcare organizations, and sound design professionals, through participatory design;
  • to evaluate the prototypes using both objective and subjective measures;
  • to disseminate research findings in academic publications and public events.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • PhD degree or foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD in sound interaction design. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made.
  • Documented postdoctoral research experience in sound design, participatory design with sound, interactive sound models for computational artifacts, evaluation of sound in interaction.

Desirable

  • At the closing date of application, no more than three years since the PhD degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD was awarded.
  • Interest in neuroscience and sleep.
  • Ability to formulate original and unique research ideas and conduct research independently.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to communicate research ideas and results.
  • Awareness of diversity and equality issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
