The Department of Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary department within a larger unit together with Sociology and Social Anthropology, located at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University.

We are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher within the framework of the research project Gender Struggles in the New Conjuncture, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The project examines a selection of anti-gender networks as well as feminist and LGBTQI+ networks in five European regions to capture the meanings of gender and sexuality in these various actors' tactics, political programs, and social visions, as well as their impact on human rights, democracy, and civil society. You will be part of a dedicated and interdisciplinary team with a strong research profile and close collaboration among researchers. Researchers at the Department of Gender Studies are prominent in further developing and problematizing various understandings of gender and gender relations and have a long tradition of exploring gender and sexuality from an intersectional, postcolonial, and interdisciplinary perspective in both global and local contexts.

Project Description

The overarching aim of the research project is to investigate how struggles over gender and sexuality shape contemporary political and social landscapes in Europe. The project examines both feminist and LGBTQI+ movements fighting for expanded rights, as well as hybrid alliances between anti-gender networks, religious fundamentalists, conservatives, and far-right movements opposing these advances. The research project aims to contribute new knowledge about the new normative foundations for society that are emerging in the wake of today's diverging mobilizations. The project is led by Professor Mia Liinason. Read more about the project Gender Struggles in the New Conjuncture.

We are now looking for a postdoctoral researcher to conduct research focusing on the emergence of anti-gender ideology within transnational diaspora communities and transnational far-right currents among migrant groups and diaspora communities within and outside Europe. The research will also examine the interactions of feminist and LGBTQI+ movements with these groups. The position requires you to be motivated to conduct high-quality research and to have prior knowledge of ethnographic fieldwork, including digital ethnography, as well as advanced knowledge of diaspora communities in the region(s) where the project will be conducted.
