About the position

In this role, you will work closely with responsibility for financial management issues and controlling of healthcare IT. The Regional Council has decided that Karolinska University Hospital will take overall responsibility for the shared IT systems of healthcare within the owned healthcare from mid-2026. This includes both existing systems, new development projects, and the decommissioning of old systems. The next five years for IT will involve a significant generational shift with the introduction of a new main journal system and replacement of systems within core healthcare processes, such as maternity and childbirth care, anesthesia and intensive care, as well as within imaging and functional areas.

As Karolinska has been tasked with leading and coordinating the development and management of shared IT systems for healthcare in Region Stockholm, a director for Healthcare IT is currently being recruited. The incoming director will build a new organization for the regional IT operations within healthcare, where you will be involved in driving financial issues together with IT in the transformation from an internal to an external delivery organization. You will independently drive issues to establish a financial model for the external delivery organization. The role has many points of contact, and you will be responsible for initiating relationships with other hospitals' finance representatives and establishing the collaboration structures required for cooperation.

You will also work on the continued implementation of Karolinska's financial management model generally for the entire IT operation together with a controller colleague and the IT organization. You will have many points of contact within the organization, both within your own unit and with the IT operation and other owned hospitals within Region Stockholm. To succeed in this role, you need to be driven and have the ability to take initiative, independently initiate activities that yield results, and deliver them on time.

You will organizationally belong to the unit of Specialists and Process Development under the Economic and Procurement Staff, and you will report to the head of Specialists and Process Development.

The role is new and will be shaped based on the needs that you, together with the incoming director and the IT organization, see as necessary based on the new mission.

The role includes, at a high level:

  • Strategic support to the director and management team in financial management issues
  • Initiate and drive projects and activities to build and ensure good financial management for healthcare IT and the rest of the IT organization
  • Ensure a well-functioning planning process, e.g., relevant key figures for healthcare IT and that there are the reports needed for the purpose in Karolinska's BI system Tableau
  • Continuous follow-up of financial outcomes related to healthcare IT
  • Compile and report analyses to the director and managers
  • Deliver in the financial staff's processes, such as closing and forecasting.

The employment is for a permanent position, full-time, with start date according to agreement. A probationary period may apply.

  • has very good analytical skills, is structured, and has a good sense of both the whole and the details. You are responsible, both for your own area of responsibility and contribute to the whole
  • is a relationship builder, and since you will have many contacts with the operation at various levels, good collaboration skills are crucial for your success in the role.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University or college education of at least 180 HP (120 credits) in economics or other education that we assess as equivalent, such as industrial economics
  • Experience from IT or service companies as a business controller/controller manager or equivalent role
  • Experience working with IT controlling at a strategic level with issues such as financial management models, pricing models, and/or internal trading
  • At least five years of experience in qualified controller work
  • Experience in independently leading and driving development projects
  • Fluent in Swedish, both spoken and written
  • Very good knowledge of Excel and other MS Office tools
  • Experience communicating and presenting to non-economists

Meritorious:

  • Experience in requirement specification and report development in BI systems.
