University Lecturer in Persian
The Department of Linguistics and Philology conducts research and education in linguistics and text studies with a focus on the languages and cultures of Asia, the classical languages of Europe, linguistics, and computational linguistics.
Education is offered at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. The department has about seventy employees who, together with students and partners, create an international and intellectually vibrant environment.

Job Responsibilities
The job responsibilities include teaching, supervision, and examination as well as research and administration. Teaching primarily concerns undergraduate education in contemporary New Persian and includes courses such as Persian grammar, oral and written language skills, reading of modern and classical texts, Persian literature, and the history of the Iranian cultural sphere. Courses in Old and Middle Persian may also be relevant. Teaching also includes supervision and examination of theses and translation projects at various levels, as well as course development and course administration. The holder of the lectureship is expected to actively contribute to the department's research and seminar activities. Job responsibilities also include following developments in the subject area and societal developments that are relevant to the work at the university.
The position may also include administrative tasks such as management assignments and participation in various management bodies.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, one must have a doctoral degree in Persian or Iranian languages or possess equivalent scientific competence. Documented ability to teach and conduct research at an academic level in contemporary New Persian is a requirement.
Documented pedagogical skills are an additional requirement. The applicant must have completed relevant higher education pedagogical training of ten weeks or have acquired equivalent knowledge. If deemed particularly justified, the higher education pedagogical training may be completed during the first two years of employment.
Documented ability to teach in Swedish and English is also a requirement.
The applicant must possess the personal qualities required to perform the job responsibilities successfully. The applicant should have the ability to develop education and research within their subject area and have good collaboration skills with colleagues. Therefore, the applicant must have qualities such as developed communication skills, flexibility, and responsibility.
Additional Information
Parental leave, part-time work due to childcare, union duties, military service, or similar will be considered as work experience and should be noted in the CV.
The position is a permanent appointment. A probationary period may apply. The person appointed is expected to have their main working hours based at the department in Uppsala. Start date is 2026-08-15 or by agreement.
