Mother Tongue Teacher in Twi

The Competence Center for Multilingualism works to ensure that students have the opportunity for instruction in their mother tongue as well as study guidance in the language they master best.

Currently, there are 38 different languages represented within the organization. We collaborate with both municipal and independent authorities, from preschool to high school.

Students who have at least one guardian with a mother tongue other than Swedish have the opportunity to study their language as a separate school subject. Through mother tongue instruction, students strengthen their multilingualism, develop their identity, and build pride in their language and background.

We are now looking for a mother tongue teacher in Twi!

Employment Information

The position is a specific fixed-term part-time employment of approximately 5%. Start as soon as possible, by agreement, until 2026-06-17.

Your Responsibilities

The work as a mother tongue teacher is a dynamic and varied position where the student base guides the planning. You will visit different schools around the municipality – both centrally and in peripheral areas – to meet students in their school environment.

The following tasks may be included in the role:

• Mother tongue instruction
• Study guidance in the mother tongue
• Remote teaching and remote guidance
• Language support initiatives in collaboration with the Reception Unit Hej Umeå

Mother tongue instruction takes place in groups or individually within the municipality's schools, from preschool to grade 9, mainly in the afternoons outside the regular timetable. Students in grades F–3 receive instruction at their home school, while students from grade 4 may receive instruction at another school unit. Bus passes are offered if needed for travel between schools. Remote teaching may occur for students in peripheral areas from grade 2. The work is independent and includes planning, implementation, grading, and evaluation according to the Swedish curriculum.

Study guidance means that you support students in grades 1–9 and in Language Introduction in high school. Guidance can take place before, during, or after lesson time. You collaborate closely with the mentor and subject teachers, who are responsible for the planning, while you provide support in the mother tongue to strengthen the student's knowledge development.

Support to the Hej Umeå Reception Unit may be included in the reception of newly arrived students, for example through information meetings and mapping.

Requirements

• Twi as a mother tongue and documented knowledge in this
• Approved Swedish B/Swedish 2
• Good digital skills
• Teacher training, Swedish or foreign – or other educational experience
• Valid extract from the criminal record, due to the law on suitability checks

Meritorious

• Knowledge of additional languages
