Legal Advisor at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.

The Legal Department currently consists of four units – the Client Law Unit, the Government Law Unit, the Information Management Unit, and the Planning, Coordination, and Legal Development Unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a legal advisor, you will provide legal advice to the agency's management and other parts of the organization within your area of expertise and other related issues. You will continuously work to provide legal support in change and development processes, and you will also contribute to the legal governance within the agency. Your responsibilities will include revising and following up on the agency's regulations and general advice as well as other governing documents. You will provide support and advice within the agency on various legal issues, with a particular focus on drafting, reviewing, interpreting, and negotiating various types of contracts, as well as ensuring legal quality in contract processes. Your work may also involve preparing and presenting the agency's consultation responses, which may include drafting proposals for opinions to supervisory authorities, preparing requests for legislative changes to the government, and providing support or representing the agency in legal processes and disputes.

The role of legal advisor is independent and varied. The work involves ongoing contacts with, among others, the Government Offices, other authorities, and other parts of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. There are good opportunities for remote work of up to 60 percent depending on individual circumstances.

QUALIFICATIONS

You are a person who works well with others by being attentive and communicative. You are meticulous and well aware of goals and quality standards, can make correct assessments and priorities. You take responsibility for your tasks, structure your approach independently, and drive your processes forward while being willing to act on your own convictions. In this role, you will also work with complex issues, analyze and solve complicated problems. You understand complex linguistic materials in both speech and writing and can produce your own documents of high quality.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Law degree
• Notary qualification or other experience deemed equivalent
• Very good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish

It is meritorious if you have:

• Judicial training
• Training in contract law and/or procurement
• Training in negotiation methodology
• Experience working as a corporate lawyer in a larger organization or other experience deemed equivalent
• Experience working as a lawyer with a focus on contract law, public procurement, dispute resolution, or IT law
• Experience working as a legal advisor within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service or at another government agency
• Experience working with issues of public access and confidentiality as well as data protection
• Experience working with outsourcing or other business development projects
• Experience in contract negotiations
