Description
Our school counselor of many years is now retiring, and we are looking for you who want to contribute and work as a counselor at Vättleskolan 4-9.
Vättleskolan is a safe school with a conducive learning environment for students from grades 4-9, with an associated adapted primary school for grades 1-9. Vättleskolan features award-winning architecture and is beautifully situated between Angereds Torg and Rannebergens centrum, close to the natural area of Vättlefjäll. We focus heavily on good relationships, increased goal fulfillment, and preparing our students for an independent life.
Responsibilities
As a school counselor, you will be part of the school's student health team and contribute with psychosocial expertise at the organizational, group, and individual levels. In student health, you collaborate with the school nurse, special educator, school psychologist, school doctor, and school management. The teams work under the principal's mandate but are led by the deputy principal for grades 4-6 and 7-9, who, together with the working teams, will work health-promoting and preventive to strengthen children's and young people's opportunities to achieve their goals.
Your responsibilities include participating in the school's ongoing values and safety work, support conversations, collaborating with and supporting guardians, consulting with staff, and interventions in groups/classes. You also collaborate with external actors such as social services, habilitation, UPH, and BUP.
Within the primary school administration, you will participate in professional meetings once a month together with counseling colleagues and professional developers and participate in external supervision. As a new school counselor, you will also receive an introduction and a mentor. School counselors in the primary school administration work from a common assignment description.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a degree in social work or another relevant higher education. We want you to have experience working as a school counselor and experience working with children and youth. You will document your work in PMO and therefore have a good understanding of the Social Services Act and the Education Act. You have a good ability to express yourself in speech and writing, which is important since you will conduct school social investigations and assessments before admission to adapted primary school, as well as investigations of student absenteeism.
Also meritorious are:
- experience working in social services
- experience working in schools in socio-economically disadvantaged areas and multilingual environments
- experience in promoting and preventive interventions
- training in conversation methodology/supervision
As a person, you are stable, empathetic, unpretentious, and secure in your professional role. You have a strong commitment to the psychosocial situation of children and youth and have the ability to meet people in various life situations. You enable children's storytelling and contribute to highlighting students' participation and perspectives.
You find it easy to build relationships and are professional and respectful in your interactions with students, guardians, and colleagues. You need to have an interest in working in an educational environment and in teams with different professions.
In your work, you are structured and clear and have the ability to take initiative and make decisions within the framework of your assignment. You also prioritize your efforts together with the principal and other student health staff.
The professional role requires a high degree of independence, collaboration skills, and personal maturity. You also enjoy working with complex issues. Finally, you remain calm in difficult situations and can make well-founded decisions under time pressure.
