Lawyer at the Children and Students Ombudsman (BEO)

The task of the Children and Students Ombudsman (BEO) is to ensure that legislation against bullying in schools is followed. BEO handles incoming reports of bullying, informs about the law, provides advice, and also pursues compensation claims against school authorities on behalf of children. The focus is on safeguarding the rights of children and students. BEO is a special function at the Swedish Schools Inspectorate's headquarters in Stockholm.

Do you want to use your legal expertise to strengthen the rights of children and students in practice? At the Children and Students Ombudsman (BEO), you will work in an organization where law meets social benefit – and where your work has a direct impact on children who have been subjected to bullying in schools and preschools.

Job Responsibilities

As a lawyer at BEO, you will primarily handle and investigate cases related to bullying in schools and preschools. Your tasks include investigating reports of bullying that come to BEO both in writing and verbally, as well as preparing proposals for decisions. In cases where compensation claims are made, you will monitor the position of the principal and, if necessary, prepare the case for upcoming proceedings. Your tasks may also include giving lectures, drafting and writing consultation responses, and participating in organizational development. You will also respond to general inquiries about legislation from individuals and school authorities. The work requires close collaboration with other parts of the Swedish Schools Inspectorate.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a Swedish law degree.

You should also have a notary qualification or equivalent experience as a preparatory lawyer or clerk in court, completed within the last five years.

Furthermore, you have:

  • Well-developed communication skills in both speech and writing, and the ability to communicate with different target groups, where school authorities, guardians, children, and students are important target groups
  • Very good collaboration skills, integrity, and independence
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail

It is advantageous to have:

  • Experience with Swedish discrimination or compensation legislation and its application, as well as legislation in the school area
  • Experience in children's rights
  • Experience in independent legal processing with the application of current regulations
  • Experience in conducting investigative interviews

Your personal qualities, abilities, and motivation will be highly valued.
