Job Responsibilities

In the role of controller, you will work with impactful initiatives that contribute to the development of the organization for those we serve, the children. An important task will therefore be to analyze and conduct various types of environmental scanning. We actively work to ensure quality in forward-looking financial management, and to succeed in this, we strive for all financial reporting to be simple, transparent, and accurate. You see it as natural to work on process improvements in areas such as forecasting and budgeting, project follow-up, and the development of reporting where digitalization becomes a natural component. We are facing system changes that will enable more digital working methods.

The role includes working together with engaged colleagues within the unit to drive the city's financial processes in the administration, which includes year-end closing and reporting, interim reporting, forecasting, analysis, budgeting, annual closing, and annual analysis. You actively work for the organization's values and equity, and contribute to and promote a positive work climate.

Your responsibilities will include managing and administering the financial aspects of our student administration system, Extens. In the system, monthly compensation runs are performed that provide both municipal and independent preschools as well as individual pedagogical care services the financial compensation they are entitled to based on the number of enrolled children. Partially, the compensation run currently cannot be performed through the system and is therefore handled manually. Part of the assignment with this position is to find solutions to move away from this manual handling and implement developed working methods in connection with the system being replaced in 2025.

In Malmö city, QlikSense is used as a tool for operational follow-up and a platform for decision support, statistics, and data analysis. The IT and digitalization department at the Service Administration is responsible for QlikSense, but the tool can be further developed at the operational level. In the preschool administration, we are facing significant demographic changes due to lower child numbers and therefore need to further develop our analysis basis to have updated decision-making grounds. Therefore, your responsibilities will include taking responsibility for the development of QlikSense with a focus on valuable key figures and analytical opportunities.

In addition, you will participate in various system and finance networks in the city where you are expected to drive the preschool administration's issues. You will also have the opportunity to take responsibility for development assignments and prepare matters for management and committees.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a university degree in economics at least at the bachelor's level and at least one year of work experience in financial work. We consider experience in similar work from the public sector to be an advantage.

As a person, you are analytical, structured, and have the ability to drive your own work. You are interested in and want to understand causes and connections to contribute to giving children the best conditions. You are accustomed to searching in statistics and research material and conducting environmental scanning to achieve success in your understanding. You have an interest in participating in improvement work and can constructively challenge to streamline and develop existing processes. You have excellent analytical skills, good investigative ability, and high accuracy. You need to be comfortable presenting information to both larger and smaller workgroups. Good communication skills in Swedish, both spoken and written, are a requirement. You find it easy to establish and maintain relationships to create good working conditions.

You should be able to handle and process large amounts of data and be a skilled user of the Office suite. Good knowledge of Raindance, QlikSense, and student administration systems is an advantage.

About the Workplace

The Finance Unit is one of three units within the Department of Planning and Analysis. The unit is responsible for the administration's financial management and has a strong focus on budgeting, follow-up, and analysis. We are also a support function for the operations, management, and the politicians of the committee. The unit works with investigations and analyses to develop the operations in Malmö City. You will work with ten wonderful and engaged controllers who are passionate about ensuring that preschool operations continue to develop in the best possible way. For us, it is natural to have a flexible workplace where we work both on-site at our premises at Lugna gatan 82 in central Malmö and digitally.
