Then you could become the new communications manager in our strategic research platform at SLU Alnarp, in a green and progressive campus environment.

SLU Urban Futures is looking for a communications manager with expertise in research communication, who can support the platform in its mission. Platform communication should increase SLU's visibility and presence in urban forums and agendas, nationally and internationally, both within and outside academia, and strengthen SLU as an attractive partner in urban research, education, and practice.

About the Job

We are looking for someone who wants to become a central resource in the platform's mission to strengthen and develop interdisciplinary research, education, and collaboration in sustainable urban development.

SLU Urban Futures works with complex issues that need to be framed and communicated to position SLU's work on urban issues, as well as to guide research efforts, collaboration projects, and knowledge development.

The platform is one of SLU's four future platforms and has Alnarp campus as its main campus, but travel to other campuses and locations occurs in the work. Meetings take place both physically and digitally. In addition to your platform team, which includes a program manager, program secretary, and hub coordinators at various campuses, you will also have local colleagues in the unit for collaboration and development, including SLU Think Tank Movium as neighbors and partners. You will also be part of several communication networks; such as the four future platforms, a local network in Alnarp, and a national network for all of SLU.

Responsibilities

• You will be responsible for internal and external communication regarding the platform's activities, including environmental monitoring (internal and external) and strategic communication planning.
• Production, coordination, publication, and editing of content for SLU Urban Futures' communication channels (newsletters, website, social media, printed materials, etc.).
• Support the development of SLU's urban discourses and positioning within sustainable urban development.
• Your work will also include supporting the planning and execution of internal and external events, both physically and digitally. You are also expected to assist in establishing and developing networks between universities, industry, and society.

Your Background

As a person, you are proactive with good collaboration skills, well-organized, and communicative, and can drive processes with many involved. Since the work involves many internal and external contacts, we will place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements for Employment

• Relevant higher education degree and at least a few years of experience in both strategic and production-oriented communication work.
• Interest in and knowledge of the field of sustainable urban development.
• Very good knowledge and documented experience of working with research communication.
• Proficiency in the most common communication tools, e.g., working in Adobe Creative Suite as well as publishing tools such as EpiServer, WordPress, and social media channels.
• Knowledge of graphic production and branding work.
• Very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English and accustomed to English-speaking environments.

Meritorious for Employment

• Documented experience of working with various communication tools and media that strengthen collaboration between practice and academia.
• Established networks in the field of sustainable urban development, in Sweden and internationally.
• Experience in supporting collaboration across disciplines.
• Led processes with many involved (communication materials and events).

About Us

SLU Urban Futures is one of four future platforms at SLU. The purpose of the platforms is to promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches as well as future-oriented teaching and research. The platform operates across all faculties at SLU and stimulates collaboration with relevant societal actors.

By being a living, interactive interface between academia and society, SLU Urban Futures aims to: a) identify knowledge needs through projects based on synthesis and analysis, and generate academic decision support for socially relevant issues; b) identify and develop new research questions that support solving future problems through collaboration with relevant societal partners; and c) develop interdisciplinary approaches by initiating and coordinating collaboration across academic disciplines.

SLU Urban Futures is anchored in the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Crop Production Science (LTV), where several landscape-related knowledge areas are gathered under SLU Landscape. Utilizing these resources, the platform explores urban issues from a landscape perspective and offers a spatial and socio-ecological approach to urban studies and transdisciplinary approaches for all of SLU.

The employment will be operationally based at the unit for collaboration and development in Alnarp. The unit is a collaboration-supporting resource with a mission to develop and support SLU's internal and external collaboration to strengthen quality and societal relevance in SLU's research, education, and environmental analysis.
