Migrations Officer at the Swedish Migration Agency

At the Swedish Migration Agency, we work with one of the major societal issues of our time – migration. We are about 6,000 people here, and we have an unusually important job!

We are looking for migration officers in application processing, asylum assessment, reception, accommodation, and return to the reception and return center in Märsta, where we are now establishing several new operations.

The establishment of the center is part of the national reform of asylum reception and a preparation for the implementation of the asylum pact.

Description of the center

The center is a new type of workplace. You will work with issues that concern and engage in a dynamic environment characterized by meeting people and influenced by what happens in our surroundings. It is also an environment characterized by continuous learning and participation, where we, through co-location, have better conditions to work closely together among the professions in the asylum process. We are also close to the asylum seekers by working where they reside. This allows us to work more effectively and make it safer for the asylum seekers.

It is an international environment, both because it is close to Arlanda Airport where most people arrive in and leave Sweden, but also because the agency will become more integrated into a common European asylum reception and EU agencies such as Frontex and EUAA next year. When you work at the center, you become part of the journey towards a new and reformed asylum reception. You are expected to be open to your skills and engagement being needed in various tasks performed at the center, where service and guidance are ongoing elements. Feel free to listen to our podcast, where two experienced team leaders at the Migration Agency's accommodation share their experiences of working closely with people seeking protection in Sweden; listen here (https://www.migrationsverket.se/om-migrationsverket/jobba-hos-oss/vi-som-jobbar-har.html#podcast).

What does a migration officer do in a center operation?

As a migration officer, you will handle, investigate, and decide on various types of cases and other tasks performed at the center. In your role, you will meet and have conversations with both individuals living in the center and actors conducting operations there. The conversations may involve informing about decisions or explaining the Migration Agency's processes, as well as guiding and providing service. You will identify and address any special needs of individuals and, if necessary, hold conversations with adults and children in vulnerable situations.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone with good collaboration skills, who is attentive and resolves conflicts constructively. You communicate clearly and ensure that messages are conveyed and expectations are clear for all parties involved. Furthermore, you are structured and can independently plan and organize work effectively towards set goals and deadlines. You are flexible and can easily adapt and change your perspective and approach in altered circumstances.

In our work as civil servants, high demands are also placed on judgment and a strong sense of security and confidentiality.

You who are applying have

  • A university degree of at least 120 credits with a legal, social science, or behavioral science focus, or other education combined with relevant experience for the role.
  • Knowledge of administrative law matters.
  • Experience in work requiring good service.
  • Good communication skills and express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish and English.
  • Good knowledge of the Office suite.

It is meritorious if you have

  • Experience in case handling.
