Position: Head of Waste Management

You will belong to the business-driven operation consisting of the water and waste management unit. Although the business-driven operation includes two areas, we see ourselves as a cohesive unit where we support each other and work across boundaries to achieve common goals.

With us, you will have a stimulating and strategically important assignment with close proximity to both the organization and management decisions, as well as a great opportunity to influence how the operation is planned, organized, and developed. The waste management area is in an intensive phase of change with new and stricter legislation, increased demands for property-based collection, and high expectations for quality, sustainability, and service to residents.

Orust municipality is facing a comprehensive development task where we are investigating and preparing to conduct waste collection in-house. As the head of the unit, you will play a central role in this change process and become an important driving force that, together with engaged colleagues and partners, builds and develops a modern, sustainable, and future-proof waste management operation.

Your responsibilities

As the waste manager, you have overall responsibility for personnel, finances, and operations. The role includes leading, supporting, and developing the skills of subordinate employees. The assignment includes responsibility for the municipality's recycling center. You will work with both operational and developmental issues for the municipality's waste and recycling operations. The development in the area is rapid, and you will lead and develop the operations in close collaboration with employees and stakeholders based on statutory requirements and our customers' expectations. Examples of tasks include:

  • Permit issues
  • Dialogue with permitting authorities
  • Environmental reports
  • Sanitation regulations
  • Waste plans, fees, etc.

Tendering, contract issues, and financial investigations are also part of the role. The work has a strong focus on sustainability from a societal perspective, and you will lead and develop the operations in accordance with politically set goals.

Qualifications:

  • University education or other education/experience deemed equivalent by the employer

About you

We are looking for someone with a university education or other education and/or experience that the employer assesses as equivalent. You have already worked in a leadership role within waste management, sanitation, or other technical or municipal operations, and you are used to taking responsibility for both people and processes in an operational environment.

As a person, you are strategic, driven, and development-oriented with a sense for good business. You contribute to increased customer focus and good working relationships. To drive the waste management operations forward, we also know that networking, environmental monitoring, and a strong desire to find long-term and innovative solutions are important.

You are structured, have an open and positive attitude, and contribute to an increased sense of service and good working relationships. You should have leadership qualities both operationally and strategically, and you have experience in leading and developing operational activities, such as collection, recycling center operations, vehicle planning, or waste logistics.

You are proficient in Swedish, both spoken and written, and have good knowledge of the Environmental Code, the Waste Ordinance, and the municipality's responsibilities under the Municipal Waste Management Act.
