Göteborg Film Festival (https://www.goteborgfilmfestival.se/om-oss) is the largest film festival in the Nordic region and the most important meeting place for the Nordic film industry, with the vision of being the hub for film culture in the Nordics. The 49th festival in 2026 will showcase 266 films from 76 countries for over 270,000 visitors – both in cinemas and digitally – attracting 2,200 industry visitors and 150 journalists. In addition to the festival, the organization runs Draken Film, Sweden's leading streaming service for quality films, the children's film festival Prisma, the outdoor festival Open Air, and industry activities such as Nordic Film Market, TV Drama Vision, Nordic Film Lab, and a film policy summit.
About the position of CEO
Göteborg Film Festival is looking for a proactive and unpretentious CEO who wants to lead the largest film festival in the Nordics into its next phase. The CEO leads the operations in close collaboration with the Artistic Director and reports to the board. The organization has 15 permanent employees and recruits 100 people on short-term contracts and 300 volunteers in connection with the festival each year. As CEO, you are responsible for leading and developing the organization so that the festival is run professionally with high legitimacy and trust capital towards the audience, filmmakers, financiers, partners, and the external environment. An important focus will be to strengthen organization, structure, and long-term sustainability, without losing the festival's playfulness and artistic integrity. Another focus will be to drive audience development both physically and digitally in a world where behaviors have changed rapidly.
We would like our future CEO to consider Gothenburg as their main base.
Your responsibilities
• Drive the development of, and strengthen Göteborg Film Festival as the natural meeting place and voice for film in the Nordics
• In close and open collaboration with the Artistic Director and board, be responsible for overall strategy and long-term development that strengthens the organization's position and voice
• Drive the question of how we best meet the audience physically and digitally to always remain relevant
• Drive the development of Draken Film as the obvious platform for quality films
• Develop structure, processes, and systems that strengthen operational planning, effective working methods, and a sustainable work environment
• Be a secure and present leader who strengthens their management team and staff under a developing leadership
• Ensure stable finances, follow-up, and sustainable revenue models
• In close collaboration with the Artistic Director, be responsible for nurturing and developing the organization's uniqueness and organizational culture
• Stay updated on industry issues and be an active participant in discussions within relevant areas
• Be a strong ambassador representing Göteborg Film Festival towards the audience, financiers, partners, politics, the film industry, media, and the external environment

Knowledge and experience
• Previous experience as a manager with overall responsibility for operations with a strong audience perspective
• Experience in driving the development of effective working methods, processes, and systems
• Business acumen and experience from operations with revenue requirements
• Understanding of idea-driven operations and the conditions of cultural entrepreneurship, political governance, and the importance of artistic integrity
• Good knowledge of HR and work environment
• Experience in organizational issues, financial management, and strategic planning
• Good communication skills, in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
