The Department of Medicine, Division of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, conducts translational research primarily around metabolism, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease with the aim of improving health and healthcare in society. The overarching goal is to create an excellent translational research environment of very high international standard.
Job Responsibilities
The person hired as a research assistant will primarily conduct research and data analysis. The tasks include quality control of DNA data. The work will contribute to a project using large-scale “genotyping array” from women who have experienced miscarriage and their fetuses (including calls of aneuploidies and copy number variations) and contribute to ongoing efforts in this area (such as Genome-Wide Association Studies, meta-analyses, etc).
The research assistant will contribute to writing research articles and oral presentations. We expect the hired individual to conduct high-quality research and participate and assist in projects from other group members and colleagues, as well as contribute to certain administrative tasks such as data collection and applications to the ethics committee. The position requires collaboration with colleagues and other research groups, but also the ability to perform data analyses independently.
Qualifications
The applicant should have a bachelor's degree in a field corresponding to or similar to biotechnology, molecular biology, genetics, biostatistics, or computer science. A master's degree or nearly completed master's degree in a similar field is also required. Ability to work in R/Python and a UNIX environment is required, as well as excellent oral and written English and Swedish as working languages.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Documented experience of research in Sweden or abroad
- Experience handling GWAS data
- Knowledge of copy number variations (aneuploidies)
- Experience developing analysis workflow pipelines in Snakemake
- Experience with version control in Git (conda, etc.)
- Experience and/or knowledge in genetics
- Experience in large-scale data analysis or bioinformatics
- Knowledge of pregnancy physiology and biology and/or statistics
After a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skill, applicants who are deemed to have the best conditions to carry out and develop current tasks and contribute to a positive development of the research group will be selected.
Employment
Type of employment: Fixed-term employment, 6 months.
Extent: 100%, full-time.
Location: Department of Medicine, Gothenburg.
Start date: As soon as possible or by agreement.
