Materials Engineer with Chemical Knowledge

Are you a materials engineer with chemical knowledge or a chemist with materials expertise looking for an exciting job? Would you enjoy collaborating with many competencies within product development and the lifecycle of advanced systems? Join us in our expansion within the Hardware Engineering department in Solna, Stockholm!

Your Role

As a materials engineer at Saab in Solna, you will be challenged with a wide range of materials tasks related to our products in radar warning, electronic countermeasure, and countermeasure systems. You will be involved in material qualification and various material testing, both internally in Solna and in collaboration with other Saab sites.

The increased focus on future-proof material choices, from both environmental and occupational health perspectives, will largely engage you in supporting our organization in phasing out hazardous substances. The work to eliminate or replace harmful substances will be carried out within product development projects and service support agreements.

Communication skills and good collaboration are key to succeeding in this important role. Your curiosity and interest in both people and technology are therefore highly valued. You will contribute with materials engineering support to designers in system design, electronics, and mechanics. You will also be an important part of our in-house production flow such as purchasing, industrialization, and quality issues.

Main tasks include:

  • Technical support to our design organization and development projects related to materials areas such as adhesives, chemicals, polymers, silicones, rubber, and polymer AM materials.
  • Conducting material investigations, planning and executing material testing, and writing technical reports.
  • Collaboration within areas such as Quality, Purchasing, Industrialization, and other Saab facilities.
  • Developing and maintaining our material analysis laboratory.

You will be part of the business unit Fighter Core Capabilities, FCC, which provides world-class signal intelligence systems and self-protection systems for the next generation Gripen and Globaleye. FCC is part of the Surveillance business area.

The Materials Engineering section is expanding and wants to grow. The section is organized within the Hardware Engineering department. The department is responsible for the hardware development of our products and consists of about 120 employees. It is divided into seven sections with a wide range of competencies and responsibilities; everything from electronics to structural analysis. You are welcome with your passion and drive towards better product development.

Your Profile

Your ability to collaborate with other roles and competencies is of great importance. As a person, you have an analytical mindset with a holistic perspective. You are communicative, supportive, and enjoy taking responsibility. Persistence will sometimes be your greatest asset. The work requires that you have a strong interest and knowledge in the materials field.

Necessary skills:

  • M.Sc. or engineering degree in chemistry, materials engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of previous work experience in the areas of adhesives, chemicals, polymers, silicones, and/or rubber.
  • Good collaboration skills.
  • Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written.

In addition to the above requirements, it is desirable that you have experience in these areas:

  • Knowledge and experience in electronics design and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of various types of material analysis methods.
  • Previous experience with substitution of CMR-classified substances and/or environmentally hazardous substances.
  • Previous experience in technical support to supply chain and production.

Your application can be in Swedish or English. Please note that this is an ongoing recruitment process and the position may be filled before the application deadline.

The position requires you to undergo and be approved according to the applicable security protection regulations. For positions where Saab has requirements for security classification, this may involve requirements for certain citizenship.
