About the Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology at Uppsala University was founded in 1947 and is the oldest sociology department in Sweden. The department offers undergraduate and graduate education in sociology. Undergraduate education is also provided in social psychology and sociology with a focus on work, organization, and personnel.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include teaching and administration. More specifically, the work involves teaching seminars in the Introduction to Sociology course, where the tasks primarily consist of leading and facilitating seminar discussions. Some administrative work may occur. Planning of teaching is done in consultation with the course coordinator and teaching staff.

Qualifications

• To be employed as a teaching assistant, it is required that the applicant is admitted to undergraduate or graduate education.
• Good knowledge of sociological theory and methods is a requirement for employment, for example through previous studies.
• Very good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written, are a requirement for employment since the teaching is conducted in Swedish.
• Previous experience in teaching or similar work is a requirement for employment.

The applicant should also possess the personal qualities necessary to perform the job well. Such personal qualities include flexibility, good collaboration skills, good communication skills, and a sense of responsibility. Since the work will be done in close collaboration with the course coordinator and other teaching staff, we place great importance on collaboration skills and a willingness to support colleagues and others involved.

Desirable/meritorious

• Completed method courses and/or other courses in quantitative methods are meritorious.

About the Position

The position is temporary according to HF 5 chap § 12. Approximately 2 months, with a workload of about 40%. Start as soon as possible by agreement. Place of employment: Uppsala
