Logistics Expert at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand centers, and client transport.

The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising individuals deprived of their liberty. These are the clients of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service who are moved between remand centers and prisons, to court hearings, and hospitals, among others. TA also transports individuals deprived of their liberty on behalf of the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Swedish Migration Agency, and psychiatric services. In 2026, TA will conduct around 130,000 transports, which is expected to increase by about 10% in the coming years, including both domestic and international transports. TA is in an exciting phase of expansion and development, particularly regarding working methods, transport planning systems, and the development of internal and external collaboration, processes, and organization. We are also actively working to strengthen leadership and employee engagement at all levels while placing a strong focus on increasing gender equality within the department.

The new Section for Strategic Operational Support is a result of an increased ambition to develop planning, governance, monitoring, and development of TA. The Operational Support Unit primarily provides support to the department head but also to other units within the department. The support is provided in the form of, for example, analyses, strategies, and plans for the department head's entire planning horizon, case preparation, maintenance of collaboration points, and monitoring and development of transport operations. The unit is also responsible for department-wide administration and coordination within various operational areas and the entire fleet of vehicles for the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As an expert, your focus will be on developing the logistics around the department's 130,000+ transports and, together with other experts in the section, developing growth plans both in the short term and on a longer strategic level. Growth plans include everything from staffing to the placement of offices and transport stops, as well as optimizing the use of vehicles and facilities.

You will drive strategic improvement projects where we use data and new technology to optimize flows together with our Transport Planning Unit, which is responsible for the daily planning of our transports. You will use BI tools to track KPIs and visualize logistics data as decision support. Some of our systems are older, so a larger part of the analysis is done in Excel, but the Swedish Prison and Probation Service is on the verge of modernizing the IT environment, so new tools and data will become available in the coming years. The work is done both in collaboration with other experts within TA and with other departments at the headquarters.
