Researcher in Signal Intelligence for Radio Communication
The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defence and security to support Sweden's military and civil defence. Our research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defence, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defence, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analysis. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defence capability.
Do you want to help develop the next generation of systems for signal intelligence against radio communication? Then FOI could be your new workplace! We offer a balanced work life, a developing work environment, and a socially important job!
About the Position
You will work at the forefront of technology and drive theoretical applied development. Our clients ask us to challenge the limits of physics, which means we develop solutions that not only use the latest technology but also the technology of the future. Your tasks will include research and technology development of methods and algorithms in our development projects.
You will have excellent opportunities to follow an idea from sketch to finished system while also keeping up with academic research in your field. Since our unit covers a wide range of technologies, there are great opportunities for varied tasks, including close contact with interested recipients within the Armed Forces.
We work in project form where your contribution becomes a significant part of the whole, and there is a real opportunity to influence the results. Since we test our systems in realistic environments with field measurements, there is also the possibility to work outside the everyday office and lab environment.
About the Unit
You will be part of the unit Signal Intelligence for Radio Communication, which belongs to the Electronic Warfare department. Together with colleagues in the Radio operational area, we work with the Armed Forces' needs regarding electronic warfare and robustness aspects for applications within radio.
The unit's mission aims to develop intelligence methods that strengthen situational awareness, locate the opponent's radio transmitters, and thereby support the disruption of the opponent. We work with the entire chain from advanced algorithms to hardware prototypes, which are often tested in real environments. We are close to our clients but also have good contacts in the academic world and the defence industry.
Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
- Have a doctoral degree in engineering or natural sciences. This may involve communication systems, signal processing, mathematics, software development, hardware and electronics, but there may also be other areas that can contribute to broadening and strengthening our capabilities. You can be newly graduated or have a few years of experience.
- Have good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form.
As an employee at FOI, you will have a job with a lot of freedom, the opportunity to influence, and space for your own initiatives. Therefore, you need to be structured and self-driven. Since the work is project-based, you need to have good collaboration skills, enjoy developing solutions together with others, and be goal- and result-oriented.
Meritorious
- Competence in radio communication, signal processing, or electronic warfare.
- Experience from the Armed Forces, defence industry, or other defence-related authorities.
