The Faculty of Languages at Uppsala University conducts teaching and research in several of the classical and contemporary languages and cultures, as well as linguistics and language technology. This diversity of linguistic, literary, and cultural orientations forms a core of humanities research and also lays a sustainable foundation for fruitful collaborations within the faculty, as well as with other fields of science and society at large.
At the Department of Nordic Languages, there is a doctoral education subject, Nordic languages. Within this, the variation in studies is vast; studies may include, for example, text and conversation research, Swedish with a didactic focus, Swedish as a second language, language structure, sociolinguistics, runology, name research, historical linguistics, multilingualism, philology, neighboring languages, and dialects (for examples, see the department's research page and ongoing dissertation projects). We welcome applicants in all areas of the subject.
