About the Workplace
Being part of the Rescue Service Storgöteborg means being part of something bigger than oneself.
We see it as a privilege to be someone others can rely on. Someone who never gives up, who is always ready to act. We are a brave organization that takes care of each other. We are the first to step in to solve the problem and the last to leave to ensure safety. Ultimately, everything we do is about creating a safer community. This commitment permeates our entire organization and creates an unmatched feeling of being needed.
Job Responsibilities
Do you have a strong commitment and want to contribute to saving lives, creating safety and security?
We are looking for someone who, alongside their regular job, wants to make an important societal contribution. As a firefighter on standby (also called rescue service personnel on standby, RIB), you will have the opportunity to make a real difference. It is an exciting, rewarding, and versatile job where you also get the benefit of being part of a great community, valuable training, workout opportunities, and an addition to your household income.
Working as a firefighter on standby means that you will be on standby every fourth week or according to a schedule, approximately 168 hours/month, which means that during your standby, you will be called in for rescue service assignments as needed. This can involve many different types of interventions, such as saving lives, extinguishing fires, and assisting in traffic accidents. You will also work to some extent with preventive fire protection.
When you are hired as a firefighter, you will undergo a four-week introductory training before you start working operationally. The training includes both theory and practical elements such as smoke diving, traffic accidents, working at heights, intervention exercises, basic fire knowledge, water rescue, and more. You will be paid for the training, and in cases where applicable, we will also compensate for lost income from your regular employer during the training.
As a firefighter, you will be compensated for the time you are on standby, respond to alarms, participate in exercises, and also for physical training (2h/week), and you have free access to our training facilities at the stations.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has the interest, willingness, and ability to help others. You need to demonstrate good judgment and act calmly, steadily, and controlled in pressured situations. You should be able to work well in a team and collaborate with both colleagues and third parties. In this role, good physical fitness is also important, and you must have the capacity to work at heights and in confined spaces.
No prior knowledge is required to work as a firefighter on standby; when you are hired as a firefighter, you will receive the necessary training. We require that you have at least a B driving license and good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
To work as a firefighter on standby, you need to live or work within a certain distance from the fire station, which you can read more about regarding the time you should be able to reach the fire station on our website here (https://www.rsgbg.se/jobba-hos-oss/att-bli-brandman-rib/).
To be hired as a firefighter, you must pass the rescue service's physical test, treadmill test, height and claustrophobia test, and stress test, and you must also present a certificate for the swimming and lifesaving test Guldbojen. You can read more about these tests and how to best prepare yourself on our website here (https://www.rsgbg.se/jobba-hos-oss/att-bli-brandman-rib/intresseanmalan-brandman-rib/).
As a firefighter, you need to be in good health; therefore, we conduct a medical examination as well as alcohol and drug tests before potential employment.
Other
Physical tests will be conducted over two half-days in weeks 19 and 20, with a preliminary time of 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM. The preliminary start date for the introductory training is week 40, 2026. The training lasts for 4 weeks.
