Our high schools offer education for students with extensive needs for special support. At the high school in Uppsala, we offer the social science program (with a focus on social studies) and the introduction program individual alternative (IMA). We are now looking for a qualified special teacher specializing in language, writing, and reading development who has a strong interest in working with our target group. The position is temporary, 100% during the school year 2026-2027, starting in August 2026.
About us
Magelungen Utveckling is an employee-owned company that offers qualified treatment and change work for children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. Magelungen conducts treatment and resource schools at the primary and secondary school levels. The goal is to create a context in the operations that is manageable, meaningful, and understandable.
Our aim is to provide a context where all students have a chance to succeed based on their conditions. Here in Uppsala, we organize ourselves according to actual needs and are a flexible and learning organization at all levels. We have a strongly anchored value base where, among other things, the equal value of people is central, which in turn shapes our entire operation. We have a high staff density and an enhanced student health service consisting of occupational therapists, speech therapists, 2 special educators (one with a trained therapy dog), special teachers in mathematics, school counselors, school nurses, school doctors, school psychologists, study and career counselors, assistant principals, and principals. At the school, there are also approximately 15 subject teachers, a school librarian, several resource educators/mentors, full-time mentors, and janitors/lunch hosts. The school has about 146 students.
We are located in completely renovated premises at Rapsgatan 8 G since August 2023; before that, the school was located at Svederusgatan. We have science/technology/art rooms, a music room, a kitchen, a gymnasium, a training room/gym, a school library, several relaxation rooms, group rooms, and various-sized lounges in addition to classrooms. We also have a staff room centrally located in the school. The school has a yard with planting boxes, a basketball court, and benches to sit on. Parking spaces are available adjacent to the school.
About the position
You will plan and conduct instruction in Swedish together with Swedish teachers and plan and implement support measures related to language, writing, and reading skills for students in both IMA and the social science program. We have small teaching groups and a co-teaching system in the social science program in all subjects in year 1 and in Swedish and mathematics also in years 2 and 3. We have co-teaching in Swedish in several of our groups at IM. You will work in a team with our special education team and the school librarian. You will also be involved in developing and leading work in a class at IMA for students with significant language difficulties/language disorders together with a pedagogical leader who is also an English teacher who has led the work for two years. Mentorship is not included in the position.
The position is 100% and temporary during the school year 2026-2027 but may be extended.
We are looking for you who are a qualified and licensed special teacher specialized in language, writing, and reading development and have experience working as a teacher in schools. We are looking for someone who also has a strong interest in working with the target group and finds the tasks exciting. Furthermore, we are looking for a skilled educator who is good at building relationships, is self-driven, flexible, structured, creative, and has a good ability to think outside the box and collaborate. It is an advantage if you have worked in introduction programs and resource units or resource schools and/or with our target group previously.
