About the Job

You will be involved in various data collection and analysis activities primarily conducted under the EU's data collection regulation.

The tasks mainly consist of collecting different types of data through sampling programs on board commercial fishing boats as well as research vessels. The work involves a lot of fieldwork, which entails flexible working hours and some work on weekends.

Additionally, the tasks include ongoing and routine biological analysis of fish, as well as analysis of video material collected to estimate the possible occurrence of bycatch.

Your Background

As a person, you are responsible and good at communicating. You enjoy working in a team but are also comfortable working independently when required. You need to be meticulous, accustomed to working systematically, and have a flexible approach. You have an interest in the marine environment, fish, and fishing.

We will place great importance on your personal suitability.

You should:

  • have a solid interest in biology and fish
  • have very good sea skills
  • have good experience in fieldwork
  • have a driver's license
  • be able to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish

It is advantageous if:

  • you have completed a safety training course at sea
  • you have experience from commercial fishing or work on research vessels
  • you have experience working with biological samples from aquatic environments
  • you have experience in quantitative analysis of images and/or video material

Eligibility:

No formal higher education is required. You may be trained as a marine biologist or biologist but can also have acquired knowledge in other ways.

About Us

The Department of Aquatic Resources conducts environmental analysis, advice, research, and education in aquatic ecology with a focus on fish and shellfish. The department is SLU's largest and has employees at four main locations: Lysekil, Öregrund, Uppsala (Ultuna), and Stockholm (Drottningholm), as well as two field stations.

Our activities are strongly focused on data collection and analysis of fish, fishing, and ecosystems. The department is characterized by intensive collaboration with the surrounding community.
