Substitute Assistants Wanted for Adapted Primary and Secondary School
We are looking for someone who can create situations where students succeed.
You have experience working with students in need of special support, and your leadership is rooted in the belief that all students can and want to develop. We are now seeking substitute teachers for adapted primary and secondary school.
About Us
In Solna, the adapted primary school currently has eight classes that study both subjects and subject areas – what was previously called training school. There are seven class teachers and five practical aesthetic teachers at the school, and in each class, one to three teaching assistants work with the students throughout their school day, which can include both school and leisure activities.
In the adapted secondary school, there are currently three classes studying the individual program. There are three mentors and six practical aesthetic teachers at the school, and in each class, two to three teaching assistants work with the students throughout their school day.
About the Position
We are looking for substitute teaching assistants for students with intellectual disabilities. The position means that you will be a substitute and called in as needed. As a substitute, you will replace regular staff during short absences. In the role of substitute, you will carry out teaching in the classroom based on the regular teacher's planning. As a teaching assistant with us, you are part of the student's entire school day, which also means participating in lunch and break activities as well as working in our primary school's after-school program in the afternoons.
You will provide both practical and pedagogical support. You will facilitate learning in consultation with teachers, create a safe environment, follow up, and collaborate with other functions in the school. As a teaching assistant, you play an important role in supporting the student's school journey!
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for someone who has:
- completed secondary education
- experience working with children or young people in need of special support
- documented experience working in a school environment, preferably with adolescents or young adults with special needs such as autism, NPF, and ID.
It is advantageous if you have:
- worked as a teaching assistant in an adapted secondary school
- post-secondary education in a relevant field for the position
- knowledge of alternative communication.
We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in students in need of special support. You should have a strong commitment and a desire to develop together with colleagues and students. High flexibility and responsiveness are prerequisites for quickly adapting to new environments as a substitute and thus contributing to a functioning operation.
You work in a structured manner and have a leadership style rooted in the belief that all students can and want to develop. As a person, you are attentive to the students' needs, clear, respectful, and have a great ability to build relationships with both our students and their guardians and colleagues. You have a low-arousal approach to the students.
