New Nurse or New to Surgical Care?

The Hospitals in the West is an administration within the Västra Götaland Region and consists of four hospitals – Alingsås Hospital, Angered Local Hospital, Högsbo Local Hospital, and Kungälv Hospital. About 3000 employees work with us every day to provide good and safe specialist healthcare of the highest quality.

About Surgical Ward 2

Surgical Ward 2 is a general surgical care unit that is part of the Surgery and Orthopedics Department.

In 2020, we moved into some of Sweden's most modern care unit buildings. The new ward has 28 single rooms designed so that each team of nurses, nursing assistants, paramedics, and doctors has a good working environment with modern technology that provides excellent conditions for delivering patient-safe, person-centered care together with patients and relatives.

We primarily investigate and treat patients with acute surgical diseases in the abdomen and gastrointestinal tract, traumatic surgical injuries, and urological problems. We receive both acutely ill patients, patients coming for planned surgery, and patients needing palliative care.

We work in teams that collaborate closely with various healthcare professionals. We have a close partnership with the pain team, mobile palliative team, dietitian, and local healthcare team.

Introduction

We arrange a safe and supportive shadowing experience for 4 weeks based on your needs.

Clinical Foundation Year

For you who are a newly graduated nurse/radiology nurse, a Clinical Foundation Year is included in your permanent employment during the first year. The Clinical Foundation Year includes lectures, process-oriented nursing supervision, and practical training of your profession at the Simulation Center. It also includes shadowing in other departments to give you a broader understanding of the hospital where you work. This is an investment made to give you the opportunity to further develop in your profession and build your professional identity.

Qualifications

You are a licensed nurse; experience in surgical and/or palliative care is an advantage but not a requirement.
