Description

We are now looking for a school counselor for Högenskolan and Önneredsskolan for grades F-6.

The position is full-time and permanent.

Önneredsskolan is a F-9 school with nearly 1000 students and is located in a scenic area with close access to forest and sea, in the western part of Gothenburg. Högenskolan is a F-3 school with approximately 105 students. We have two school counselors in our school area, so you will work with and receive support from a close colleague in the same profession.

Responsibilities

As a school counselor, you will be part of the school's student health team and contribute with psychosocial competence at the organizational, group, and individual levels. In student health, you collaborate with the school nurse, special educator, school psychologist, school doctor, assistant principals, and the principal. The team's mission is to work together with the principal and work teams to promote health and prevent issues to strengthen children and young people's opportunities to achieve their goals. Collaboration is important to us, and we support each other across professional boundaries in complex cases.

Your responsibilities include participating in the school's ongoing values and safety work, support conversations, motivational interviews, collaborating with and supporting guardians, consulting with staff, and interventions in groups/classes. You also collaborate with external actors such as social services, habilitation, UPH, and BUP. You actively work on issues related to bullying and follow up on reports of concern, as well as advising other staff on mandatory reporting. Furthermore, you participate in the school's crisis work and work to promote student attendance through analysis of absenteeism at the group and individual levels. You work on knowledge-enhancing initiatives for the school's staff regarding children's and young people's mental health, social issues, and various risk and protective factors. You also provide support for students and staff during acute events.

Within the school administration, you participate in professional meetings once a month with counseling colleagues and professional developers and take part in external supervision. As a new school counselor, you will also receive support in your work from professional developers and colleagues. School counselors in the School Administration operate based on a common job description.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in Social Work or equivalent higher education. We prefer that you have experience working as a counselor and experience working with children and youth. You have a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing as you document your work in PMO, and you have a good knowledge of the Social Services Act and the Education Act.

Additional merits include:

  • Training in conversation methodology/supervision

As a person, you are stable, empathetic, unpretentious, and secure in your professional role. You have a strong commitment to the psychosocial situation of children and youth and the ability to meet people in various life situations. You enable children's storytelling and contribute to elevating students' participation and perspectives. In your work, you are structured and clear and have the ability to take initiative and make decisions within the framework of your assignment.

The professional role requires a high degree of independence, collaboration skills, and personal maturity. You enjoy working with complex issues, see opportunities, and are creative. You remain calm in difficult situations and can make well-founded decisions under time pressure. You set clear goals and plan activities and projects in good time. You use time effectively and work systematically, organized, and methodically.
