PhD Candidate in Industrial Economics
Description
The Faculty of Health, Nature and Engineering Sciences announces a position within the doctoral education leading to a PhD in Industrial Economics at the Department of Engineering and Physics.
As part of a research project concerning the role of logistics in the cement industry's CCS, we are seeking a motivated PhD candidate to develop their research within our group. The research is planned to be conducted within supply chains and logistics with a focus on energy-intensive manufacturing climate transition. Specific orientation and focus area for the doctoral work will be defined in detail in consultation between the PhD candidate and the supervisory group. The PhD candidate will be responsible for creating and disseminating new knowledge through empirically driven research within supply chain management. Possible research questions may revolve around the role of logistics in climate transition and its interplay with production aspects, as well as resilience within these supply chains.
Responsibilities
As a PhD candidate, you will primarily engage in your own doctoral education. The doctoral education, which consists of 240 higher education credits (hp) for the PhD and 120 hp for the licentiate degree, offers a chance for paid studies combined with work and an opportunity to start an academic career. As a PhD candidate, you will work independently and be prepared to contribute in various ways to the subject's and department's work and development. You will have the opportunity to deepen your interest areas together with others. It may be relevant to participate in teaching and administration, known as departmental service, by agreement. Such work can comprise a maximum of 20% of full working hours. The work as a PhD candidate gives you great freedom to plan and structure your work, which requires commitment, drive, and the ability to organize your work to successfully complete a dissertation.
To contribute to a good working environment and support both the organization's and your own development as a researcher, you are present and actively participate in the daily work and community.
Eligibility and Admission
To be admitted to the doctoral education, you must meet both general and specific eligibility requirements (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7 § 35).
General eligibility is granted to those who have obtained a degree at an advanced level, completed course requirements of at least 240 hp, of which at least 60 hp at an advanced level, or who have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge within or outside the country (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7 § 39).
Specific eligibility for admission to the doctoral education in industrial economics is granted to those who have obtained a master's degree, or equivalent in industrial economics, or in related fields such as mechanical engineering (specifically oriented towards industrial production) or computer science (specifically oriented towards industrial IT), provided that the studies and thesis work have a relevant orientation for the planned dissertation work. The degree must include a relevant independent thesis of at least 15 hp at an advanced level for doctoral studies. Those who do not meet the specific eligibility requirement but have acquired equivalent relevant knowledge in the research area may become eligible after special assessment.
To be admitted to the doctoral education, you must be assessed to have the ability to benefit from the education (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7 § 35). Admission is based on individual assessment.
