Hardware-Near Cybersecurity Expert
The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civil defense. The research spans several areas, such as underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive substances), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analyses. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capability.

About the Position
As a hardware-near cybersecurity expert with us, you will build knowledge about and develop methods and techniques used to identify, utilize, and address vulnerabilities in hardware and hardware-near software in embedded systems. In your work, you will also apply this knowledge through work on concrete cybersecurity issues and security tests for our clients. This may include analyses of electronics as well as various types of tests and penetration tests of existing and new systems. In connection with the analyses and tests, you will also identify the consequences of the vulnerabilities found and propose security-enhancing measures to improve the systems being examined. In addition to working with analyses and tests, you will also have the opportunity to participate in method development and research aimed at developing improved working methods within hardware analyses and hardware-near penetration testing.
About the Unit
You will be part of the Cybersecurity unit, which belongs to Cyber Defense and Command Technology.
Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
- At least two years of experience working with electronics-related development work, such as electronic design, testing of electronics, hardware-near programming, FPGA programming, or security testing of embedded systems.
- A degree in computer engineering or electronic design at the master's or civil engineering level, or equivalent education or skills that FOI assesses as equivalent.
- Fluent language skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written, as the work requires it.
Personal qualities we highly value for this position include a good ability to analyze and solve complex problems, as well as being creative and self-driven.
Meritorious
Knowledge and practical experience in the following are meritorious but not required:
- Electronic design
- Development, testing, or penetration testing of hardware-near software
- Development, testing, or penetration testing of embedded systems
- Electronics or hardware-near software for radio or telecommunications equipment
- FPGA development
- RÖS or Tempest protection
- Research in hardware-near software, electronics, or embedded systems.
- Completed doctoral education

The position is a permanent employment that may begin with a six-month probationary period.
