The Norrköping area includes the Skenäs prison and the Norrköping remand center. We are expanding and currently planning for the future of corrections - we are now looking for you who want to grow with us!

The Skenäs prison will be upgraded from security class 3 to security class 2 in 2026, which means a strong focus on our overall security work. We also have a care department that includes both security, health, and medical work. The prison is located in Vikbolandet, about thirty kilometers outside Norrköping and has no public transport connection. The remand center is located in central Norrköping.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison/remand center are varied: care, monitoring, searching, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. Work at the remand center is often routine-driven and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the remand center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in human development. You need to be aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally.

You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction for three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the mandatory basic training for correctional officers, which lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted for your opportunity for permanent employment.

The need will determine whether you are placed at a prison or a remand center.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should have a physical condition that allows you to act physically if the situation requires it. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
• Good computer skills.
• Driver's license (B).

It is meritorious if you have:

• Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work.
• Several years of work experience from another profession that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, or conflict management.
• Relevant language skills.

OTHER

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replace it with selection questions that are relevant to the position. The answers to the selection questions and CV will form the basis for whether you are qualified to proceed in the process.

The employment includes mandatory correctional training that may take place at another location.

Some positions are classified in security class, and a security check with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made.
