Anders Sandrew Professorship in Digital Art History

Through a donation from the Anders Sandrew Foundation, Uppsala University has the opportunity to announce the Anders Sandrew Professorship in Digital Art History, based at the Department of Art History.

The Department of Art History conducts research and teaching in the fields of art history and textile studies. The department has research environments in areas such as medieval and Renaissance art and architecture, the visual culture of the 18th century, architecture and urbanity, contemporary art, as well as digital art history and AI. Job Responsibilities

The person hired will have overall responsibility for developing and conducting research and education in art history, with a particular focus on digital art history.

This includes developing the research subject, planning and leading research projects, conducting independent research, actively seeking external research funding for both their own and others', such as doctoral candidates, projects, as well as developing collaborations with external partners, nationally and internationally. The responsibilities also include course development at various educational levels and communicating and informing about research, as well as representing the subject in various contexts. The research component normally constitutes about 50% (including research administration) of the position. Teaching, supervision, and course development at various levels are included with normally about 50% (including teaching administration) of the position.

The holder of the position should also be prepared to take on various types of leadership assignments within the department (e.g., director of graduate education or head of department) and at other levels within Uppsala University.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible for appointment as a professor is one who has obtained a doctorate in art history or has equivalent scientific competence, as well as demonstrated pedagogical skill. It is required that the pedagogical skill, scientific skill, and other skills are relevant to the subject matter of the appointment and the tasks that will be included in the position.

The applicant must have completed university pedagogical training relevant to the university's activities, comprising ten weeks or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. If there are special reasons, the university pedagogical training can be completed during the first two years of employment. To be considered as a supervisor for doctoral candidates, completion of supervisor training is required.

For eligibility, documented ability to teach and administer in Swedish, or another Scandinavian language, as well as English, is required. Those who do not have the ability to teach and administer in Swedish are expected to be able to use Swedish as a working language within two years.

Furthermore, a general eligibility requirement for teachers is that the applicant must possess the personal qualities required to perform the position well, such as flexibility, good collaborative skills, and a sense of responsibility.

Assessment Criteria for Applicants Meeting Eligibility Requirements

In the selection among eligible applicants, special emphasis will be placed on scientific competence and leadership skills. Pedagogical competence and administrative skills will also be given weight.

The university will primarily consider those who, after a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skills, are deemed to have the best conditions to carry out and develop the current tasks and contribute to a positive development of the operations.

About the Position

The position is permanent. The extent is 100%. Start date by agreement. Location: Uppsala. The person appointed is expected to spend the majority of their working hours in Uppsala.
