The unit manager leads and is responsible for the work of the unit. This includes having personnel responsibility, promoting a unified employer policy, a good collaborative climate, and a good working environment within the unit, the department, and the agency. The role includes representing the organization in many different contexts, both internally and externally. You are responsible for the strategic coordination of the department's EU issues and hold an advisory role towards the political leadership in both EU matters and other international issues.

The work is characterized by many points of contact in a dynamic environment, where you meet many professional colleagues. The unit currently consists of 18 people, including a unit manager, a deputy unit manager, and two unit assistants. The unit manager reports to the head of the Ministry of Justice's expedition. The unit also includes the Ministry of Justice's dispatched special attachés (legal advisors) in Brussels.

Currently, the organization of these issues is being reviewed to develop and strengthen international work and provide improved conditions for strategic work in implementing the government's policies. As the head of the unit responsible for international issues, you, together with the deputy manager, will be a driving force in the unit's ongoing change work.

The International Unit is responsible for coordinating the department's EU issues. This work includes preparing meetings in the Council for Justice and Home Affairs and Coreper. The unit is responsible for the department's internal coordination of goals at the EU Court and the department's infringement cases, as well as analyzing EU legal developments and providing EU legal advice to other units. The unit is also tasked with coordinating the political leadership's international contacts, foreign trips, and incoming international visits. The unit is also responsible for reporting and following up on comments and recommendations from international human rights organizations in the area of torture.

Your Background

We are looking for someone with an academic degree, preferably with a specialization in EU law/EU politics or international law/politics. You have solid leadership experience with proven good leadership qualities. Experience working in the Government Offices and experience representing the Government Offices or other authorities in EU work and/or in other international contexts is a prerequisite. To succeed in the role, you also need to have good knowledge of the EU and its institutions and decision-making processes, as well as an understanding of EU cooperation. Furthermore, you have experience in EU negotiations and good knowledge of EU law. Additionally, experience with EU work in Brussels at the EU representation or at another relevant EU institution, or other relevant international multilateral and/or bilateral cooperation organizations is an advantage. Experience leading or driving change work, collaborating with the parliament, and experience in relevant subject areas is also advantageous. You are accustomed to and enjoy representing an organization, and you have excellent knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, as well as good knowledge of English.

You focus on results by prioritizing, making decisions, and showing trust in employees' competencies by supporting and coaching them, as well as addressing problems in a timely manner. A high level of integrity and good judgment is essential.

We offer a permanent position as a department councilor and a fixed-term managerial appointment for 5 years with the possibility of extension. The position is classified in a security class, and a security review with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen, but you may have a foreign background.
