Lead and Develop the Work at the Unit for Governance and International Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Finance

The unit is responsible for Sweden's relations with and governance of international financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, the European Development Bank, the Nordic Investment Bank, the Council of Europe's Development Bank, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, as well as the governance of the Swedish National Financial Management Authority, the Fiscal Policy Council, and the National Institute of Economic Research. From 2026, the Swedish National Financial Management Authority will merge into the new agency Statskontoret, which the unit will then be responsible for. The unit currently consists of about 15 employees whom you will lead, motivate, inspire, and develop in their daily work.

As the head of the Unit for Governance and International Economic Cooperation at the International and Economic Department, we offer you the opportunity to take on the three roles that leadership in the Government Offices entails. You will have the chance to lead employees, act as an operational representative, and serve as an employer representative with the goal of continuing to develop the agency's ability to be an effective and competent instrument for the government in its mission to govern the country and realize its policies. You will develop the operations towards set goals and be responsible for organizing and planning the work of the unit, as well as managing the unit's budget. In your role as a manager, you will represent the operations in many different contexts, both internally and externally, and it is important that you act as a good representative of the agency at all times.

The International and Economic Department consists of four units. As a unit manager, you will be part of the department's management group.

Your Background.

We are looking for someone with an academic education, preferably in economics, combined with relevant work experience in leading others, such as a manager, deputy manager, or project leader. You also have relevant experience working with economic and financial issues and analyses with an international focus. Furthermore, you have experience in a role as an operational representative.

Experience in a managerial role with personnel responsibility and managerial experience from a similar field is advantageous. It is also beneficial to have current experience from working with/at international financial institutions. Additionally, experience in governance, experience working in the Government Offices, and a good understanding of how it is to work in a politically governed organization are also advantageous. Knowledge of preparation routines within the Government Offices is also a plus.

You drive the development of operations and working environment, lead change with courage, and encourage learning and initiatives for development while also developing your own competence and leadership. You focus on results by prioritizing, making decisions, and showing trust in employees' competence by supporting and coaching while addressing problems in a timely manner. You are a skilled communicator, express yourself very well in both spoken and written Swedish and English. You collaborate, have personal maturity, integrity, and good judgment. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Other

The position is a permanent appointment as a department council with a fixed-term appointment as unit manager for five years with the possibility of extension. The employment is covered by the managerial agreement.

The position is classified in a security class, and a security review with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen but may have a foreign background. The position is located in Stockholm.
