Unit Manager at the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO)
Do you want to make a difference and contribute to safer health and social care? The Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO) is now looking for a unit manager based in Stockholm to develop state supervision and licensing.
About the Job
As a unit manager, you will work with IVO's entire supervisory mission, but this unit primarily focuses on the social services area. You will report directly to the department head and be part of the department's management team. In your work, you will interact with representatives from the organizations under IVO's supervision, their staff, users, the public, and the media. You will lead a unit in an agency that is in constant development. This means you are responsible for daily operations and play a crucial role in driving IVO's change efforts together with other units and departments.
Your main tasks will include:
- Leading and developing the unit with a focus on IVO's supervisory mission, primarily within the social services area.
- Having personnel responsibility, work environment responsibility, and budget responsibility for the unit.
- Acting as a decision-maker in certain supervisory cases.
- Participating in a national operational management group for supervision within the social services area from a national perspective.
- Being part of the agency's management group responsible for the agency's development and daily operations.
IVO's extensive mission requires developed working methods to achieve increased goal fulfillment. The agency's strategic direction aims to achieve greater impact for patients and users by working more collaboratively and more risk-based. Digitalization, data-driven analysis, and enhanced legal application are central development areas, along with developed leadership and employee engagement.
The position is a permanent employment with a six-month probationary period, located in Stockholm. Travel may occur in the role.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- A relevant academic degree, such as a degree in social work or another social-oriented education, or other education/experience deemed relevant by the agency for the position.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience as a manager at a direct level with good leadership qualities.
- Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing social services work.
- Experience in taking initiative, driving, and implementing development and change work.
- Experience in coordinating and leading others in daily work.
- Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
To succeed in this role, you need to be a confident leader who is development- and results-oriented and has the ability to see and act for the whole. You have strong analytical skills and a strategic approach and can make decisions. Your leadership is characterized by courage, clarity, and integrity.
We also see that you have a good ability to create positive relationships and collaborate with others. You lead in a clear and coaching manner and can create the conditions necessary for employees to feel engaged and involved. The state value base permeates your work.

We consider it an advantage if you also have:
- Experience and knowledge of the laws and regulations governing state operations.
- Experience in state supervision.
- Experience from the social services areas, such as individual and family care, children and youth, disability services, or elderly care.
- Experience in collaboration with external actors, such as municipalities, providers, regions, or other authorities.

The Eastern Department is a supervisory department located in Stockholm.
IVO contributes to safe health and social care. The mission of the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO) is to contribute to health and social care that is safe, of good quality, and conducted in accordance with laws and other regulations through supervision and licensing.
The agency is characterized by great commitment and a broad and deep knowledge and understanding of health and medical care as well as social care in Sweden. We exist for the benefit of care and social care recipients.
The agency has approximately 800 employees. The supervision work is carried out in six regional departments across the country. The departments for licensing, analysis, planning, communication, and operational support are located in Stockholm, as is the director general's office.
