Recruitment of a new Director General for the Swedish Tax Agency
The Swedish Tax Agency is responsible for taxes, social fees, property taxation, population registration, personal names, registration of estate inventories, preventing and combating economic crime, and issuing ID cards to registered residents. The agency aims to contribute to a well-functioning society and perform its duties in a manner that is legally secure, cost-effective, and straightforward for both the public and businesses. The Swedish Tax Agency also provides tailored, accessible, and qualified information and services to the public and businesses. The agency serves as the preparedness authority in civil defense and is the sector responsible authority for the provision of basic data.
The Swedish Tax Agency is a central authority in the administration and takes on a large and broad responsibility in collaboration with other public actors. The agency also collaborates closely with the business community and the non-profit sector in various industry forums and networks to better meet the needs of individuals, companies, and others affected by the agency's activities. Additionally, the Swedish Tax Agency participates in international cooperation with tax authorities in other countries and in several international forums.
The agency is led by a board consisting of up to eight members. The head of the agency is the Director General, who is responsible for and leads the ongoing operations according to the board's directives and guidelines. There is also a Deputy Director General.
The Swedish Tax Agency operates throughout the country at operational offices in 46 locations, and the agency's management is located in Stockholm.
With approximately 9,700 employees, the Swedish Tax Agency is one of Sweden's largest agencies. It is a knowledge organization with a continuous ambition to actively work to be an attractive employer, focusing on leadership and employee engagement, as well as collaboration to continue driving an efficient operation.
The current Director General's term will expire in the autumn of 2026, and there is currently a temporary appointment for the Deputy Director General while waiting for a regular Deputy Director General to be appointed and take office.
