Lead Control Systems Engineer at SMP Parts

SMP Parts is a leading manufacturer of innovative tools for excavators, specializing in tiltrotators that enhance machine versatility and efficiency. With in-house production, strong technical expertise, and a clear focus on innovation, we offer an environment where ideas can quickly become reality.

About the Role

Do you want to take overall responsibility for control systems in advanced machinery while having a significant impact on future product development? SMP Parts is now looking for a Lead Control Systems Engineer who wants to play a key role in our continued growth and technical development.

The role of Lead Control Systems Engineer is new and strategically important. You will have overall technical responsibility for our control system – from hardware and software to integration with hydraulics, sensors, and mechanics – and act as the link between internal teams and external suppliers.

You will drive development forward, set requirements, and evaluate solutions to ensure that the control system operates reliably, safely, and user-friendly. You will not develop the software yourself, but you will have a deep technical understanding and be a clear requirements setter.

In this role, you will report to the technical manager and work closely with the product manager, product owners, mechanical designers, and external partners. You will also represent the company in technical collaborations and help shape the future development of the control system.

Responsibilities

  • Own and further develop the architecture, functions, and communication solutions of the control system.
  • Ensure integration between the control system, hydraulics, and mechanics to optimize the overall system.
  • Lead technical investigations, requirements setting, and supplier dialogues.
  • Coordinate testing and verification of the control system's functionality and safety.
  • Develop documentation, manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Support the sales and after-sales organization in control system matters.

Travel is required for this position.

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, automation, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Solid experience with control systems, both hardware and software.
  • Experience with integration between control systems, hydraulics, sensors, and mechanics.
  • Ability to drive technical development and requirements setting with external suppliers.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN and CANopen.
  • Experience in testing and verification of control systems is a plus.
  • Previous experience in programming or software development is a plus.

We Offer

  • A key role with significant impact on SMP Parts' future control system strategy.
  • Close collaboration with both product development and in-house production.
  • A competent and solution-oriented team with an open atmosphere.
  • Hybrid solution possible – based in Ilsbo, with the option for remote work.

Location

The position is based at our office in Ilsbo.
